Saving Motif Voices with 2000XL Sequences

I currently save ALL Sequences & Songs on the MP
but of course when you reload the sequence that was
previously saved it dosen't remember the Voices (Patches)
used on the Motif Keyboard.

Anyone know how to save everything so when you load up
a sequence everything is set to play as originally performed?

(I check the site archive and found 1 thread that mention about
saving with a Motif Rack using Midi Dumps / Send Sys Ex but I
really need someone to explain how to pull this off step by step
on a Motif 7 Keyboard)

What I do is name the sounds in the tracks and save it like that.
if I want to load up that track, at least I know what sounds was used.
like if a piano is on track one, bass on track two, drums on three.
There is another way ? where you can store your mix on the motif
in pattern mode. You have to name the pattern the same as
your mpc track and save it. so when you turn on your motif load that
pattern name that is the same as the mpc and you should be good!!

Just save it on your Motif... what u do, once you have all of your sounds on your motif, go to Mixer, hit store, enter, then yes

Then save it... When u load it back, it'll be on there just like u left it. I don' think you can do it where on the MPC you can have it shoot back all of the instruments from the Motif.... The only machine i know that u can do that with the Motif is the Rs7000.... but maybe i'm wrong, anyway I know the save thing works, because thats what i do wit all minez

To "Multi-Mode" in Midi settings or multi timbral, not sure where you will find that in the manual, but its in there. Once you save each "snap-shot" of your midi settings (i.e. channels, mix, pan, etc.) then you should be able to recall each one on the Motif and then load the ALL and APS on the MPC and it should play them back. Kind of like an automated mix, it recalls where you left off, but you have to save it first, once the data is recalled on the Module (sounds) then the MPC will instruct the Motif what to play on each channel, thus each channel already being recalled will correspond exactly the way you originally set them to via the MPC sequence.

1. Turn on Module
2. Set channels and mix, sequence on MPC.
3. Save Multi-Setup on Motif
4. Save Sequence Data on MPC

After turning off/Motif and MPC

1. Turn on Module
2. Recall Multi Setup
3. Turn on MPC, recall APS and ALL or MID

Press play and the sounds should be exactly what you saved prior to turning off both units, given that you load drums and other ish correctly.

See if your motif can do midi dumps. If so, see if you can dump your current multi setup. Just read the manual. On the MPC just find a sequence you are not using and set a track to midi and choose channel 1 then press record on the mpc then dump data from motif. After that, save the sequence or save .all and it should work. It works for me but I use a EMU PK6. When you want to load, just load up the sequence or .all file in your MPC and from the sequence you dumped to press play. This will load the stuff you dumped. I hope I helped..

Noble? Do you save Multi-Setups on your Emu? Or do you just dump?

I just dump my stuff from the EMU

A midi dump would be the easiest solution, the problem now is figuring out how to trigger the dump from the Motif. I've given the manual a quick once over and couldn't find anything, I'm sure it's hidden in there some where. I'd try asking at motifator.com again, this time don't mention the MPC(they'll ignore you) just ask how to get the Mo to transmit sys ex data.
(I'm mad cuz I used to own a Motif a while back and I can't remember how I did it).

You can just insert CC# messages while you're waiting for an answer from the Mo folks. It's much more time consuming then a midi dump but it will recall all the voices you used in a sequence.

I'm pretty sure you've read all the threads here about all this stuff but I figured I'd post some links for anyone following this thread that might be having similar problems.

I really wanted an "automated" method since I am already
manually doing things by naming MP tracks the way
meseratibeats was talking bout.


I read the Motif Manual, Watch the Motif DVD, and just plain push every button / combination I can think of and just don't see that Midi Dump option on the Motif. (On the MPC side I am sure where that's located)

Hopefully someone on Motifator will know about the Midi Dump capabalities on the Motif.

Sometimes you gotta get insight / knowledge from a couple of sites
when you dealing with something like this.

ok just do it this way simple and easy......since the the motif has 64 user slots and the mpc has 99 and everthing will be control from the mpc 1 user slot on the motif will could equal up to five spots on the mpc...lets say you made beat with the mpc and motif and it took up 5 seq slots on the mpc...and if your in song mode on the motif name every thing the same name. if you name your song on the mpc...a bobby brown track...name your drum kit(s) the same thing...ok so on mpc you have your seqs name bobby brown track and your drum kit man bobbybrown track....do the same thing on the motif name that one seq slot on the motif a bobb brown track. remember to hit store on the mpc before saving on to smart media card and your good. now if ten years down the rode you have a smart media card with a seq name bobby brown track all you now need to find is a zip or floppy for the mpc that has a song it called a boby brown track......

I'm sure the rack is similar to the PK-6. If you have a midi button press that and scroll until you see SEND MIDI SYSEX DATA. Move down to the next line and scroll until you see CURRENT MULTISETUP. If you have all the instruments ready for your songs just use what I told you above. After that, select a empty sequence on the MPC 2000XL like sequence 99 or whateva. Select a empty TRACK then move down to TRACK TYPE FIELD and select MIDI. Move over to the MIDI CHANNEL FIELD and select what midi channel you are dumping from. To keep things easy, I suggest turning LOOP:OFF so when you record your dump, you will have time. Press RECORD on MPC then Press Enter on your PROTEUS. You will know the dump is happening because your metronome timing will drift. Once the drift in timing stops you know your dump is done. Press STOP on the MPC 2000XL. Save all the sequences to .all because it will keep your dump with your songs. One thing I forgot to mention is your SYSEX IDs MUST match on Both machines. The next day you can call up your .all you saved and dump back the stuff onto the PROTEUS. Thats it. But I suggest you peep the manual on the PROTEUS to make sure you are doing things right. PEACE
