the mpc editor out there just makes your program files as far as I know. It takes a bunch of files and assign them to the pads for you, saving a lot of time fudging around in the MPC. The program file is a pretty small file, usually able to fit on a single floppy disk .... as long as you're not moving all of your samples to the MPC when you use mpc editor, you should be able to use whatever you have in the MPC (unless you have a zip drive on the mpc but not one on the computer). The MPC editor doesn't do anything to trim your sound files .... it just makes sound assignment to pads easier
