I know for most older tv's the magnets will mess up the the screen, but haven't put a speaker on a flat screen so not sure :lol: but have destroyed some tv's back i the day by putting like surround sound speakers directly on top of tv, it makes that section of the screen go pinkish green

don't know if it happens with flat screens
but if the monitors got no magnetic shielding they could mess up the vt scren and cathodic tube monitors
monitors got magnets inside
the magnetic field could interfere with other electronic equipment near the monitors

ya I know magnets mess up the old tube TV's. I was reading some shit that said lcd screens should be ok since they don't use magnets for the picture or something. I got my center channel right in front of the TV in the living room and haven't had any issues so I think it should be ok. Thanks for the responses

monitors are made so they dont **** with that shit. if ur using sum old stereo speakers then yes, but studio monitors are made so this dont happen..

if its not making those weird rainbow colors and distorted images in the screen like when you hold a magnet to a tv then dont worry about it. everything is fine..

LCD monitors do not use any material in their construction that would normally be affected by electromagnets in monitors/speakers. If your LCD does, it is for some other purpose like internal speakers or cameras. If do you see any type of picture artifacts it is due to poor construction being affected by vibration from your monitors. Most audio monitors are also shielded. So, you should be good.

You got electrons in there doing all sorts, they're gonna be effected.

However the electric filed that controls the on/off of each pixel will be orders of magnitude stronger than the small < 1T fields produced by any speaker magnetics particularly for studio monitors that have a certain degree of shielding.

The only effect I can think of occurring is a slight reduction on increase in brightness as a result of slightly distorting the liquid crystal orientation for the affected pixels. However I doubt this would be detectable by the eye.

Notice I used the word "normally", taste_testa. If you want to see what affects they CAN have on your LCD, go ahead, but it will be intentional and that's not the same as monitors sitting next to them. It also isn't "normally" going to happen. :)

LCD use solid state and unmoving cells, not "guns" spraying electrons. So them being affected by fields is theoretical, purely academic and almost contextually hypothetical. Most audio monitors are shielded, but even if they were not, it would be fairly hard to find a near or midfield monitor with a magnetic component strong enough to do any perceivable thing to an LCD, or Plasma display whilst mounted in a cabinet because manufacturers simply do not use them, if they did we'd also have damage to our hard drives resulting in loss of data. This is easy to examine simply by looking at the market. Most LCD and Plasma screens are being designed by manufacturers themselves with multiple speakers actually inside their enclosures and even if not, are often designed to literally have large surround or stereo speakers mounted ideally right around them, purpose by design.

Though you're right in theory, with modern day displays you could theoretically do more damage with the electrostatic discharge from your fingers than with audio monitors. Hence my alluding to the fact that normally it wont' happen so is thus irrelavent to the OP's question. Unless we're talking about exposing the components of your LCD to intentionally try to achieve the "Hall Effect" or some other effect, I don't think we have anything to worry about. I have 2 sets (4) of large monitors sitting next to a very large LCD, and there are no issues. Thanks for your input and good post. :D
