which monitors?

The yamaha's are about the best in my opinion. Although I have not heard the Tapco's personally the yamahas blow the rest out the water. Then again don't let us decide for you, let your ears do the thinking for you. There are so many monitor threads its sickening, just do a search and look at some pro reviews on google and listen for yourself. Its free at GC, just remember to bring in your own personal favorite cd and listen with that.

Everybody says decide for yourself but most of the time you don't know what your looking for cause you don't know enough about mixing or monitors or what your looking for in alot of cases.

of course i am going to a shop for listening... i just wanted a guideline. if 9 of 10 people are saying "this monitor is the worst piece of equipment you can get your hands on", than i have to think about it... i know it´s all subjectiv and maybe i´ll be the one who thinks it´s the dopest... anyway, just a rough guideline.

the thing is... i don´t want to browse through hundrets of sites with a monitor qoute which are from 2005 or 2006... i know there are new ones too, but... you know what i mean.

searching google... man, i am doing nothing else the last two days. a lot of people are saying, save your money and and spend them on a "place a $1000 monitor here"... the pros are talking about some studio standards and most of them have nothing good to say about low cost speakers.

sorry for bringing it back, but i have to ask...

i was listening today to the yamaha hs80 and found them really good except the 2khz - 4khz range. i had the feeling it was a really harsh and nasty sound in this range.

what do the hs80 owners say about this?

was it the room ( just a sales room without any treatment) or is the monitor harsh like that?

Like I said before dip the high's on the Yamaha HS80's cause my shit did not sound that great with it at 0 I set mine to -2 I think for the High's.

I just got the Tapco S-8's, No complaints here... great low end too... translate very well

Yeah these are very underrated everybody just looks right past them. I bet half of the people don't even realize that these are made by Mackie.

Everyone one was tellin me to get the MR8's but after researchin my ass off I decided on the Tapco S8's cause for one I like the way there built like a tank, the heat sink on the back is so sick... 2 The bottom end is really nice, no sub needed... 3 They had more better reviews than any other monitor in there price range.

I've only had them a week now and have only mixed 2 beats so far but wow... they translate very accurate, I think I got the biggest bang for my buck with out a question.

This is my current set up, and I am more than happy with it
Yamaha HS50 (great for mixing as flatter sound) and KRK Rokit 6 (good for monitoring)

I go between my project studio and a friends. I have the KRK 's and the other has the Tapco's. The KRK's are closer to to what you get in terms of the frequencies from high to low.

I'm sure the answers you'll get are very subjective and dependent on the rooms you hear them in to some degree. For example my room is pretty standard in shape and he lives in a loft with very high ceilings.

The Tapco's sound much better to me when working on beats. but they are bass heavy, which probably explains why so many guys like them. However, we've taken some pumping beats done on Tapco and they sound very weak on the KRK. Maybe there is an explanation for this. I don't know. However, that's what I've found out and that's what I'm sharing.
