i've done good mixdown with a couple of old philps-speakers.
using any old decent speaker alot, you'll learn how to master the flaws in them

i'd like to make a general statment about behringer!
the only reason why they've got a bad rep is because they steal good designs
and manufacture audiogear cheaper than the originals i.e mackie, dbx, fostex, yamaha etc etc.
this ofcourse pisses the industry off and the last way to get their clients back is to badmouthing behringer.
if you're made of money, go ahead buy a top brand mixingdesk.
but then again, if you're made of money why settle for less than a Rupert Neve or an SSL?
if you want more equipment for less money, look in the behringer line.
having that said, i'll begin to install my new behringer ultrapatch3000 i picked up 4 times cheaper than a tascam with the exact same specs.

i think you should go and have a listen to those Behringerspeakers!
sorry for the OT!

Allow me to interject here... I couldn't have worded this statement any better myself. Behringer "copies" products that have been tried and true and that tends to upset alot of manufacturers. They may use less expensive components to build some (not all) of their products and then pass the savings on to the consumer. I used to own a pair of Roland D-90 active monitors that I paid almost a grand for. After hearing the Behringer Truth 2031's, I was convinced that they blew the Rolands away! I have also had an opportunity to listen to a few other monitors and I'd be a liar if I said that they were any better than the Behringers. You'll like them if you buy them and thats the truth. I have had mine for almost 4 years now and they still look and perform like day 1! The build quality alone will impress the hell out of you. For the current price (399.00 I think), they are the best bang for the buck and well worth the price! Don't cheat yourself, Treat yourself! I did!!!

I'll say my little piece about behrenger. In terms of quality, they get a way worse reputation than what i have found to be true. My mixer gave very little problems over 3 years. Nothing i'd ever complain about in a $50 mixer. My compressor has to be like 7-8 years old. I've had it for 2-3 years, my friend had it before me for a year, and he picked it up used. BUT, when i needed more channels with my mixer, my little eurorack just sounded terrible in comparision. It was fairly loud when recording. That's not a huge deal, It gets lost in the mix, but it was defineatly noticable. When it came to monitering off it though, i'd find the noice intolerable now. But it was a $50 mixer, what do you expect. I would not say the quality is there at all, but it does the job for the price. My compressor is fine, does it's job. I use light compression when recording in, no problems. You can't really tell it is there, no coloring the sound, good or bad. My headphone amp works great, cheap, no complaints. It's just hit or miss.

For me, i try to keep anything behringer out of the recording process. Nothing they make has impressed me in that field. Some stuff does it job, but it's never great. Some stuff is decent, some stuff plain sucks.

If not, taxman where do you mix your tracks?

The only stupid question is the one that isn't asked... With that said, I will probably sound just like MNH2410 when I say this but the 2480 is a kick ass tool. I do 90% of all my work on it from start to finished product. Mixing, EQing and all. The only time I finish something elswhere is when we work on a project at my brothers and we do a final mix in pro tools.

Thanks tax/mnh

I've seen a VS1880 for a good price and think i'll pick it up then.

I was going to get something to track into Cubase like a Yamaha 01x but i didn't realise you could mix in these boxes. I'd like to do as much away from the PC as possible if i can help it.

Could i midi up reason and record a track straight into one of these? Or would i still need to sample the outs of my soundcard into the MPC first?

Either of you have experience with the 1880? The 2480 is over 3 times the price of this one so out of my budget at the moment and i can't find any 2000s for sale.

Thanks

my newest setup..changed it up a little bit..MPC3kLE at FORAT getting cleaned, loaned the S950 to my friend. So now I'm rocking my second setup which includes MPC2K classic, S900, Emu Proteus 2000, and my favorite newly acquired ASR-10
