i know what these guys are sayng.
this year i bought an mpc 500.
had to return it to the shop and change it for a 1000.

that thing is totally unsensitive, lets say you need a force that will trigger a velocity number of 40 to get the minimum sound out of it.
then, from that force to FULL LEVEL, its all good.
but it has a very nasty high threshold , and akai doesnt seem to care.
even the 1000 with new pads has a similar problem, but with jj os you can tweak it a lot more than with akai os, so its about good (not perfect as my mpc4000 was but near).

mpc 500 has the worst pad sensitivity of the whole line.
it really hurts yer fingers, you tough guys. go play with it an hour then you tell me.
its not for me. now happy with 1k jjos2xl

Calluses and cuts are not like a repetitive stress injury. They are superficial and heal. That is pain you can deal with. It's like saying to harden up when you broke your wrist, when it's physically impossible to move your fingers like normal. Everyone with this "take it like a man" attitude about health are probably young and ignorant of basic human physiology, or just foolish and more concerned with impressing peers than living right.

The MPC500 is the only model I've tried. But based on the long threads complaining about the pads when it first came out, and other things, it certainly seems to be a problem mostly unique to the 500, and maybe some of the 1000s. JJ OS might help with the 1000 since there's more control over the sensitivity settings in the firmware. But even with the pads off I can't seem to trigger all velocities. It goes from 1 for soft, almost straight up to 100s. Getting 127 to trigger takes tremendous force, making it easier to just use the full level mode.

I'll probably buy a 2500 soon so I can compare. The 500 could've been a useful tool, but Akai neglects to solve some major problems that severely cripple it. The sensors are the same as the other models, they should be able to fix the sensitivity problem in firmware. Maybe they don't as a way to get people to spend more money on a 2500/5000. But I've also read people complaining about the MIDI controller pads being too stiff and unresponsive also, so maybe it's a problem with all Akai gear and most people just don't care.

Soak your fingers in some hot, wet, p*ssy. I'll bet it'll make you feel better! one.

It aint about being pansies homie..My right middle finger got cut off and re attached a few years ago. I also had my hand broken in 3 differnt places as well as a few fractures from fighting. Continuous bashing on those pads makes the injuries resurface again. I learned to just hit the pads with quick stabs instead of just being barbaric and bashing the pads. Makes a huge difference down the line.

i think people in our position will get arthritis & similar problems at an early age for sure. our breed of producer/beatmaker has only surfaced in the last 20 yrs, and not untill the last handful of years have beats been more complex to an extent resulting in longer sessions on the mpc. back in the day beats were a lot simpler, no one was chopping 64 peices etc.

i used to do alot of 2 day banger sessions on my 2500/xl. after the sessions i'd have sore hands from pads, neck & back from digging.. so i agree there is a so called mpc finger, but people get it in different ways due to their style. or maybe you all are a bunch of bitches, did we order any whine?
jokes!
