Maybe I should have read the continued posts....before posting mine.

Man if you can afford to buy good gear, why not. The more gear the more creative. Gear evolves into better things every year. If i can afford to buy the new triton every time it comes out, cool!

If it does fit your needs now, it might fit your needs in the future when you are more familiar with the basics. Some of the great producers pullout them old machines out of their closets to create some new hit all the time.

Show me a producer that only used the same equipment all of their career and I'll shut up. And don't show me somebody new, cause they just got started...once they get the money they will have a full blown studio for sure.

But i totally hear u on making the most of your environment, i do the same, before i go running out to buy suttin i might not need i see how i can do it with something I already have. The problem is most people have but dont know they can do with it or even know they have it.

I used the mpc for many years and think it's fine. And this is a post about studio environments.

When I started to read this post i wanted to laugh, but then I started to remember the days when there was no studio just a SM58 beta Microphone that Coolio threw out in the crowd when i was 17, of which they cut his set off cause the park closed at 10pm and dela soul cut into his stage time so he god MAD!

Anyway back them all I had was a Mic, Sony & Marantz Tape Deck a Dual Turntable and a King Fisher Amp with a Mic socket. I used to buy instrumentals record my vocals with the instrumentals playing to tape 1 then play to tape 2 with the backing vocals. Those days i made do..

I still have the Sony Tape Deck, its the first one ever made with DOLBY S had it for like nearly 10 years. Mic dont work no more been dropped to many times.

back in the day, when i first started, all i had was two turns a shitty dj mixer, a tape deck, and a microphone. we would record someone freestyling live while i mixed tracks sure we made some hot ass tapes, and had fun doing it
will i always remember those days? yes
will i ever have the desire to go back to those days? fukk no!!

anyway... I know this guy that believe thats its the equipment that is going to give him that professional heavily compressed american sound. though in part this is true, I wish he could understand that all that money spent will not get you there in any rush. You got to think of things in stages,

Since I know how to use a EQ on any stereo, I know to some extent how to apply that to single tracks in a mix, how to balance how to be fair. (which I often neglect when it comes to bass) but we start somewhere and work are way up. Buy the equipment if its importantly necessary.

That a good thing when a herb gets out of line, but not when a newcomer wants to drop some knowledge and he came in peace.

i dont get it cause i have tons of gear and have made tons of money with that gear. right now i am in chicago recording cause of all the gear i bought and what i have made with it in ny. tuesday i will be in miami recording. all thanks to me being a talented gearslut. a sh!tty beatmaker or producer will be sh!tty with or without gear. right now its cool to make beats so everyone is doing it, but most ain't built for this. i hope more and more peole try to be producers, cause the end result will be better and better gear, due to increased sales. it also drives down the prices cause r&d costs gets spread over more units. buy buy buy people
