quick xlr vs trs question

do some of u often plug a trs cable into the female xlr input? i tracked out my mpc the other day doing this and it sounded fine, is this done often? i figured since the trs cable fit perfectly in the middle of the xlr input, why not...is this common?

Lmao, that is called an XLR combo jack (xlr/trs)...the name says it all.

TRS and XLR are the same exact wire, just a different connector. But the actual internal wires are the exact same! However, you cannot use TRS for an application that requires phantom power.
