I need your insight on this, I'm always wondering as technology becomes more sophisticated and less expensive to produce are we to expect LOWER prices?

a good example is the mpc3000, the only reason it cost alot more than the mpc2000 is because it uses a much older technology, which costs more to produce, i was shocked when roger linn sent me back an e-mail telling about the reason behind the gap cost.

I think akai is overcharging with the 4000!

Roland has failed to compete with the mv-8000, but i bet you if Korg gets
in this fight, it will do very well, cuz Korg is highly regarded in the hip hop production community, something roland just doesnt have.

Of course Roland mv8000 can`t compete with the mpc`s... The Mpc`s have been around since 87` ... Still I think Roland is superior on the multitrack Portas .. I own A Vs-2400cd and I have never wittnes such a stable and good recording device ... ( Just a matter of taste.. )

Yep I agree on what you said about the korg.. they have been around for 40 years , they shure got the potential to compete with any box on the market.. Still the Mpc is king ..

Wait a minute here, keepintouch. Roland has NOT failed with the MV-8000. It was released ONLY 2 WEEKS AGO. Don't expect an overnight miracle. It doesn't work that way with their current line of products. The momentum builds over a period of months. You will have to wait until summer or later before you see the demand increase. How new are you new to Hip Hop? I ask that because if you don't know how many new Hip Hop musicians are buying the Fantom-S (due to its low price) you haven't done any research.

The MPC3000 doesn't cost more because it is older technology. Nobody wanted the old MPC60 and MPC3000. So they were picked up cheap by Hip Hop musicians. After the word got around that they were being used by producers, then prices soared on the secondhand market. Now they are falling again. It is all a matter of supply and demand.

AKAI isn't necessarily overcharging the retailers for the MPC4000. Its price was higher a couple years ago, and it must have cost a small fortune to develop it. For all you know they might still be trying to earn money on it. The product has been somewhat of a failure. Retail stores won't even stock it. AKAI still has to put money into its OS development.

Otherwise you would have known its history and how it was abandoned until recent years when Hip Hop producers discovered it was cheap.
