recommended card reader- will any do?

happy new year, i know it's overused and overhyped, but i wish you all lots of "dope azz beats" and good things for this coming year, imcluding OS 2.

anywhoo...... can someone recommend some good, compatable card readers for my 1000, i don't want to spend more than i have to for a speed that the 100o doesn't need. and do you all just keep that plugged in to the computer 24-7, or turn it on each time you need to transfer. too bad you can't run the 1000 with the fire wire plugged in.

Page 85 of the manual will explain all you need to know about the USB connection with the 1k, but that method is a pain in the ass. Your best bet would be to buy a USB 2.0 card reader for your computer, since it's much faster than the USB 1.1 on the MPC. Swappping the card fom your MPC to the card reader for your computer is much quicker than connecting and disconnecting the USB from your MPC as well. You can eject the card from your MPC any time, as long as you're not loading or saving anything at the time.

thanks, i got the usb together, lots of stored files on my ibook already. just unfamiliar with the card reader thing and the speed compatability.

From what I understand, the MPC's internal card reader will read and write to CF cards at whatever speed the MPC can handle (I'm not sure of the transfer rate internally). If you have a CF card that's rated to read and write at high speeds, it won't make any difference inside the MPC, even when using the MPC to transfer files back and forth to your computer. With a USB 2.0 card reader that you can seperately install on your computer, you'll notice a tremendous increase in transfer rate (especially with cards that have better tranfer speeds, unlike the MPC as I just mentioned). So if you have USB ports on your iBook (whether it's 2.0 or just 1.1), it's still worth the small investment to buy a card reader for the convenience it offers.

get a USB 2.0 reader that can of course read Compact Flash
