Noone likes you or your ugly black and red mpc. I dont care if you repainted to bite off of other forum members, in my eyes its still black and red with drawn on letters.

Sorry to Jack the thread.

Point Proven - your out of ammunition.

still the same old same old on the 1k forum.

its all good dealing with people like you - you aint gonna be able to bother me with the 1k paint insults - im past it - I am on a whole different level than you.

but its all good man - I know with time you will grow to be less judgemental and hopefully less ignorant.

Mr modnaR wrote:another thing, i can't understand how you can screw down the pad panel 'too much'? i mean, if it sits flush against the metal chassis, then it's not going to go further down, is it? please explain.

i guess when i say too much, i just mean don't screw it down absolutely till the end.
i wasn't strongarming the screws or anything. i just screwed it down till the screws stopped moving. and i'm a weak skinny guy with minimal strength, so its not like i was screwing these screws in with all my might.

i was probalbly just a special case (unluckily). i cant tell you how many times i screwed the pad bank in, turned on my mp and everything worked fine. then, once i put everything back together it wouldn't work. i guess having the blue case screwed back on would give that extra centimeter of push to make them connect and short out.

again the pics in my original post are from THE VERY FIRST TIME I OPENED MY 1000.

i say if you have never experienced the symptoms i am describing just leave your 1000 alone (as far as this issue is concerned).

and antonym, i'll try and post some pics of the screw in question.
its pretty obvious though. when you take the pad bank off look at where the pad bank used to be. you will see 4 screws sticking up through the mpc chasis. they hold the hd bracket. you can only see the threads though. if you want to take the screw out you have to open your 1000 from the back side in stead of from the top. then you can unscrew that one screw if you choose too.

honestly it seems like this has only happened to maybe one or two people so i wouldn't bother unscrewing all this stuff if this isn't an issue for you.

word.

and i know you take your 1000 apart all the time so i would say you'd probalbly be fine putting something on top of that screw like electrical tape rather than going through all the trouble of taking the screw out.

peace.

damn that sucks. PD, you any good with a soldering gun? do you have one? maybe you should try reconnecting some of those soldered connections.

i got a soldering gun but i dont think its a matter of recconecting anything.
seems like something got fried from current passing through an unexpected path.

i had a repair guy look at it and the only conlclusion he could come too was that "a logic chip" or something to that nature was fried on the board.

sigh...

i seee! i didn't realise that it was the threaded end of the screw! i thought it was the head of the screw. ah ha, well you could take the screw out, and then replace it with a washer on it so it doesn't penetrate as far through. i guess it's too late for you punch, but for anyone else that's taking their mpc apart, it might be an idea to check it so they don't end up in the same position.

muchos props for posting this man, it's always good to know that something like this can happen so we can take steps before it does, sorry about your mpc though. i guess you could do a 'nym' and go and buy another 1k, then swap the internals, and take it back saying it didn't work, and then get your money back. if you listen to the devil on your right shoulder, and ignore the angel on your left, that is..... :D

that'd be quite a powerful swap, all the internals.

i suggest you try swapping the pad assembly, busted fuse and all. buy a new 1k on credit, switch them out and return the new mpc with the old assembly and get your money back. claim your symptoms, and they'll just assume the fuse was busted to begin with.

let akai pay for this - it's like an unlimited warrantee.

if this post saves anyone from the hell i am going through right now then it made it worthwhile.

...and since this has happened i've been fighting my conscience on pulling the old switcheroo manuever (ala 'nym'). i can't bring myself to do it though. i still believe in karma.

its just tempting cause there are so many ways to do it. hell all you have to do is switch the case and the bottom (which both come off fairly easy). once you switch them up then the serials and whatnot will matchup and the unit will look like its in the same exact condition (cause the unit you are returning will have the same exact outer casing that you bought it with).

for those brave/evil enough to do this i don't know if there are any internal serial numbers that might give away the fact that you switched the inside. i would say you would be better off doing this with a used 1000 rather than a new 1000. pawn shops don't even know what an mpc is half the time, let alone look inside it, so that would probalbly be your best bet.

but again i cant go that route. i've worked at a used music equipment store for years and i've seen people trying to pull all types of sketchy stunts like this. not trying to be one of those people just cause i'd feel guilty.

hey, and anyone interested in copping a parts 1000 cheap holla at me on PM. make me an offer. everything else works fine (all 16 pads, screen, sliders, jog wheel, etc...) so if you want it for parts or to get it fixed yourself let me know...peace...

Antonym wrote:that'd be quite a powerful swap, all the internals.

just switch the casing (the blue top case and the bottom cover) and its a wrap.
actually it isn't hard at all. there's no need to switch all the internal guts, just switch the outside and you'd be straight. the bottom comes off easier than the blue top does. so you dont even have to worry about the serial number sticker looking sketchy from trying to switch. just switch the casing and you'd be good.

most places aren't gonna take the whole thing apart, and there's no way to prove anything if you got it used from a pawn shop.

damn this conscience, for holding me back...........

yeah i say the hell with karma, it's archaic metaphysics, and metaphysics can blow me

yo, i'm interested in buying parts though. i'll buy your mpc on the cheap.

whoa, that's scary man... i'm gonna stop using pad 10

No but, how about if I open it and just screw it down just a bit, or snap it off with a tool of some sort? How high is this screw?

Maybe its the pad or something that is just a little bit broken and is causing electrical malfunction? Give it a try and disconnect it just for the heck of it..

honestly, i cant say this enough...

if this isn't an issue for you leave it alone.

no need to mess with it if it isn't an issue for you. hopefully it never will be.
but if you turn on your 1000 and all of a sudden it immediately switches to bank C when you first get to the main screen you are getting closer to joining me in hell....

and i tried disconnecting that particular pad, as well as well as the whole pad bank. when this first started happening removing the pad bank would rememedy the problem. but i think it happened so many times that it finally became permanent. it doesnt matter if i have all the pads disconnected, or even the whole pad bank. something is fried inside from it touching the screw too many times....sigh.

with all the people posting on this forum daily, if this was a common problem people would have been flipping out about this by now. so if you aren't expereinceing any of the symptoms i described, i say leave it alone and just enjoy the fact that your 1000 functions properly.

peace.
