I would use it as a sketchpad and just to take on trips (for the Sequencer) I wouldn't consider it for a FULL BLOWN production of songs. It would be nice just to have it for names sake.

Tutor, I'm in complete agreement with your last post. Akai definately did not go to great lengths to get existing MPC users to part with their current MPC.

True, and I would imagine the FX that come with the 1000 are improved over the 2000xl fx board (which sucks in my opinion). I'm sure the 1000 fx won't be good either though.

any computer whiz know why you have to use the "safely remove hardware" feature in Windows instead of just unplugging USB mass storage devices (i.e. like the MPC1000 in the video)?

By Stashy Tue Oct 21, 2003 5:27 pm
could this possible be cheaper because of the fact that it doesn't have a zip storage or floppy storage on the inside. Don't jump me here I'm just trying to find out some info.

No, because it has compact flash instead which is superior to zip and floppy.

It's cheaper for a number of reasons -

the technology needed to make these things has got a lot cheaper
Akai are loosing ground to the software market and need to get more business (just a guess)
the market they are aiming this product to are simply not prepared to pay over the odds for it.
The other MPCs are over priced - there's no way an MPC2000xl should be the price it is - especially once you've added the efx card, outputs, memory and storage.

Chat with any of the music instrument retailers. There is never a shortage of MPC customers particularly the 2000XL. That alone is enough reason for AKAI not to reduce their price. Software will probably never replace the MPC's. Just as there is always a ready market for workstations, there may always be a market for a hardware device with pads. AKAI has been unable to lower their production and delivery costs. There is legislation now in the draft stage whereby future trade with China will be Fair Trade instead of Free Trade. The cost of imports will remain stable or increase because the trade deficit is going to be an important issue going forward. Also, the US dollar has been falling against other world currencies for a couple years. This cannot go on forever.

After terrible world economic conditions for the past 3 years and the troubled MPC 4000 AKAI had to do something to stimulate interest in their products. Software samplers keep getting improved so they get high profiles. The AKAI product line has remained stable, which means there has been nothing for magazines to publish about AKAI products. The company is addressing these problems by introducing an improved model, the MPC1000. They are also going to unify their product line by changing the colors of all products to a blue appearance.

From a features perspective the 2000XL seems overpriced. However, when a vendor is the leader or the only supplier of a product they can charge whatever they want because their customers are willing to pay the price. This is why Roland has finally stepped in with their yet to be released MV-8000. If Roland is successful then AKAI better watch out. It would not take much for Korg or Yamaha to develop their own equivalent of the MPC. Korg already has already introduced pad instruments. Obviously, they are nothing like an MPC but it tells you that the company knows something about user interactivity with an instrument with a pad.

The lowest price of the MPC1000 is $875 when ordered from Nova Musik. This makes it the most affordable MPC ever released. With the economy clearly rebounding AKAI is going to have a very successful product, assuming that it has no significant bugs. Order it. If you don’t like it you can be sure there is going to be no shortage of buyers waiting to take it from you.

back to itchyvinyl's question.....does it have waveform editing on screen like the 2kxl?????

it's also the deal breaker for me too......

By MPC_Producer Fri Oct 24, 2003 11:06 pm
Why not just read the manual like the rest of us? You can use your mind even less (!) by just looking at the screen captures. The waveform editing window is at the very beginning of Chapter 11 ("Editing a sample") on page 52.

well I'm in just cos of the size and the laptop integration. Its cheap too compared with previous things. I'm thinking the MPC1000, evolver, kaoss pad, an RNC compressor, I mean it'll all go in a backpack and I'm free to roam the world! I have some concerns about the program perameters, what exactly does and doesn't get imported from an 2000XL program?

Also my friend who sold his 2000 to get a 4000 was VERY sad because it just didn't sound as good for drum sounds, great for lush stuff but he felt it lacked the basic MPC attitude, that it was "just" a sampler, so I wonder about the MPC1000 - will it kick basically?

Lastly what drives me CRAZY about the 2000xl is that mutes are not recorded. I NEVER use song mode and never will, i like to keep things as fresh as possible but it would be nice to have record of certain improvisatory things, without recordable mutes this product will never fit the way I work. Does the MPC4000 have this? if it doesn't I guess there is no chance that the MPC1000 will have it. AKAI you *****- get real and make this an improvisers' box!!

here endeth the sermon

Richard

PS I do wonder if my MPC2000xl with all the xtras is going to worth like, $200, this time next year - who's gonna want such dinasours?

Every one of the MPC's has defining characteristics. I expect the MPC1000 to be no different in this respect. First time buyers can start with this model but others shouldn't sell their XL to get it unless they really need the portability.

I know what you mean about the MPC4000 sound. The machine has loads of features but it's like the sound has a flat response curve. This is why I keep coming back to the MPC2000XL even though its power and user interface is nothing like the MPC4000. I rarely use my MPC60 and MPC3000 though. They have limitations that slow down music production.

It is hard to say at this point what will happen with the value of the MPC2000XL. The value shouldn't drop as much as you think. In December AKAI is supposed to release the new blue color MPC2000XL's. Four retailers already told me some versions of the MPC2000XL have sold out and they are not getting any more of them. If your friend wants another tan/beige one, he better get it now. The tan/beige model is the classic MPC. Last chance, now or never for a new one. We are at a special transition moment in MPC history.

You don't use Song Mode? How the heck do you survive? Do you just use the MPC for live playing?

Hey MPC-Tutor

Will this machine allow us to sample what we have already made in the machine and assign it to one pad.....like the asr x pro did... I have never used the asr x pro but have heard a lot about that feature.... also will it allow us to sample during track playback :) .

I am angry because I figure they could have gave us something so we can exchange files from our MPC to PC like this old georgia flag looking as-s MPC2000xl minnie me does.

That alone catches my eye... I am 95 percent PC editing bump that MPC editing (only if I have too... I'm lazy :) )

YeAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
