I know, and I was asking which part of the steps listed are the shady part because to me, none of it is shady.

shady part? what about...........

- distributing a machine that is poorly beta tested

- dropping the price and then again selling it at the original price with some lame extra's(keep the dropped price you lamers)

If you don't like the new MPCs and / or Akai, sell yours. There are tons of potential buyers out there, resale value is high (usually the sign of a high quality product being in high demand) and you'll be able to choose a hardware / software vendor that you're happy with.

Well, that covers almost any commercial electronic product more advanced than a DVD player or calculator. The business of computers, musical instruments, home entertainment etc are all pushing not-quite-ready, half stillborn products out of their asses. Just to keep up with the craze of new models and higher specs that in reality impress only on paper.
And why do they do that? Why are they so evil and shady?
Simply because most of us are assholes who actually look forward to be **** by them. We buy their crap out of marketing hype, gear lust or fear of standing there alone with last years model of cellphone or the Triton rack expansion Ultra 3000.

Some people bought the MPC 1000 straight up cause it was an MPC and got disappointed causes it wasn´t the same as a 3000 / XL / 4000 or whatever their expectations was. Some bought it cause they thought it would make their music for them and got disappointed when they learned they have to actually work to get it going.
Some people read up on what the unit could do, listened to user experiences and weighed that against their own needs, making the decision to buy or not to buy from that, I doubt very many of them got disappointed.
It´s always sad for the first users ever buying a unit casue they are the real beta testers of today, but that is not anything specific for the MPC 1000, you´re a victim wheter you buy a fresh model plasma TV, a fresh MPC model or one of the first thousand of a new Mac laptop.

Don´t buy the hype of capitalism. Be smart a lay in the backwaters. Check up, listen and read on new products. Most important; know your own needs.

To get properly beta tested and stable stuff I suppose one have to turn to the enthusiast manufacturers and developers, people that basically creates products out of their own needs and experiences and make them commercially available. There are some small synth manufacturers, like Elektron, products like Roger Linn´s Adrenalinn etc. I guess some more gear updated people can give further examples.

This is basic capitalism, either you´re a part of it and accept the rules whether you like it or not, or you resist. But don´t come here and act all suprised cause capitalism is trying to pull the money out of your pockets. They enrichen themselves out of (y)our labour and consumption, and as long as (you) we labour and consume (you) we give them the power and opportunity to do it. It´s really simple.
I abhor the global capitalism but I know that when I buy a piece of gear, any piece of gear, I let myself be f****d up the ass by those who want to and actually make money out of it.

Don´t come complaining on Akai if you don´t add the system and all it´s participants into your whining.

really? you mean when the mpc60 got out it was also a ''not-quite-ready, half stillborn product'' ? if a company got such a reputation, wy try to waste it ?..

actually, i never got problems with my mp3 player, my TFT screen or my mobile.. or are those electronic products not ''complicated'' enough?

agree, but actually nobody knows their own needs for the full 100 %.. it's just a trial and error game.

by the way, i'm actually not complaining, i'm planning to buy an mpc1000 BK.. but i just think it's a bit lame on how akai handled this situations.. couldn't they waited some time and tested better instead of **** with peoples brains and getting them to hesitate if they spent their money right?

hey dude slow it down, i was just asking for some opinions, im not surprised by this, i think it's just **** lame, i don't care about paying money for a GOOD machine, but i DON'T like paying money for a ''not-quite-ready, half stillborn product''.. but hey ; that's the world nowadays isn't it? screwing people over and over.. yeaaa right

but your right.. i always hate it when i buy weed when i know in the back of my head that i can actually grow it myself .. but i'm too lazy too do it. lol

Those where other days, the real explosion of electronic ratrace was somewhere in the late nineties / early 2K. Probably because the massive relocationing of manufacturing to low salary nations, mainly china. That gave Texas horsetraders and British potatofarmers a chance to broaden their product range with a top notch, multiple in/out professional audio interface. It brought prices down but at the same time stressed up the need to produce new models with fancy names and specs, or like the MPC 1000 repackage it to rip people off through their vanity.

Well, I guess it´s called competition, the very foundation of capitalism.

bees80 wrote:actually, i never got problems with my mp3 player, my TFT screen or my mobile.. or are those electronic products not ''complicated'' enough?

First of all, you probably do not interact that much with those devices. Second, no, for a user it´s not as demanding stuff as a MPC, ask an engineer or a person giving service to such devices and he/she will probably think it´s a shitty product sold with sleazy measures.

bees80 wrote:agree, but actually nobody knows their own needs for the full 100 %.. it's just a trial and error game.

That´s true.

bees80 wrote:by the way, i'm actually not complaining

Yes you do...

bees80 wrote:but i just think it's a bit lame on how akai handled this situations.. couldn't they waited some time and tested better instead of **** with peoples brains and getting them to hesitate if they spent their money right?

...and the above proves it.

bees80 wrote:hey dude slow it down, i was just asking for some opinions

I gave you mine.

bees80 wrote:im not surprised by this, i think it's just **** lame

Once again, that´s capitalism. The fact of lameness applies to Akai as well as Roland, Novation, Digidesign, Volvo, Kellogs or whoever else that tickle your vanity, twist your head and rips you off.
You go buy, anything, you feed them and you are being lamed.

bees80 wrote:i don't care about paying money for a GOOD machine, but i DON'T like paying money for a ''not-quite-ready, half stillborn product''..

Nobody wants to buy a bad unit. Just listen to these guys for a pedagogical example:

"****, I need at least a Pro Tools HD to keep it tight!"

"This Tascam cassette 4 track from -87 will give me the grunge I´m after."

"A vintage Gibson or asian Stratocaster copy? I just want to play riffs!"

"Hello, I have a PC, an Art preamp and a M-Audio interface, will my tracks sound better if I buy a UREI LA 2?"

Which of the above will get a GOOD machine? Which will get a BAD? Which of the above are most likely to regret their decisions?
I don´t know.

What I know is that I read up on the MPC 1000 thoroughly and had much doubts before I decided to get it. In the end it´s pros outweighed it´s cons and I have not regretted my decision yet, I´m actually liking this unit better and better over time. I never expect to get anything more than what is flagged by manufacturer and users. I don´t expect any commercial enterprise to be less lame or of higher morality than that of most-money-out-of-least-investment, unless it´s a clearly enthausiast driven business.

bees80 wrote:but hey ; that's the world nowadays isn't it? screwing people over and over.. yeaaa right

I believe it is, yes. Unless you work in a DIY enviroment with a strict non profit approach.[/b]

Thank you ryssen, you are a more patient soul than me... I wasn't going to get into the full breakdown with him. Good explanation.

bees80 wrote:so i was writing this stuff in the 2500 forum about the 1k and i'm kinda curious what the people here think..

it's about how akai worked out their strategy tactics on the 1k.. ofcourse, i'm not sure, we can only speculate.. but i wanna know what you people think

actually we could expect the same nasty trick akai did with the mpc 1000..

1.make a buggy machine
2. slow slow slow OS updates
3. drop the price from the machine with -200 $
4. update the OS with lots of new features, updates and fixes
5. pop the machine in a new box with some little extra's
6. sell it again at it's original price
7. sh1t is selling like a mallafakka

i know this is true.. becuz before os 2.0 on the mpc1000 everyone was selling their mpc like crazy.. even i did!.. and then they come up with this new OS.. and now you see nobody selling their mpc1k

now ain't that some nasty tactics?

Antonym wrote:os 1.7 was good, actually
i dont remember any bugs really

i made some great songs pre 2.1

HELL YEAHH!!
I got this baby just before release of 2.1 for 500euros.I had a mpc3000 before that.. I sold it 1500 years after I bought it ( it was shown in DRE2000)..got an ASR 10& DIGI001 for the same price but..I missed the mpc concept ..so..MPC1000!..can you believe this babe's cheaper than a SP12??
