Why would anyone choose the Akai OS over JJ?

I'm not being a smart ass here. I really want to know why some people still use the Akai OS. I just commented on onother post that made me ask this. Especially if the latest Akai version doesn't even fix the file issue that can ruin your work? Is it fear that an OS from a third party may somehow damage your expensive piece of equipment? I can understand this logic to an extent, but when you have a serious issue with the files... What do you really have to lose? Is it waranty issues? Is it the money? Even if you got a great deal on the Mp 1000, isn't it worth another hundred bucks to bring your Mp to a level that rivals the top of the line Mps? Or even just download the free version, get some more features thet you never have to use, and avoid losing the work you create? I can't imagine anyone being sorry that they did.

I was hesitant at first, then made the jump to the free version. After I fell in love with that I bought OS1 where I am now and love it. I'm looking to move up to OS2 here soon. My productivity has skyrocketed because of it.

just the fact that the Akai os converted chops to mono makes it f*cking lame. The ONLY reason I bought the 1k is because I learned about the JJos while researching which MPC to buy.

Me too. I wanted something more portable than my Fantom, so I started researching and came across the 1k with JJ. Has been a great ride ever since. I really don't think I will ever sell this box. Even if there are no more updates or bug fixes. It is my partner in rhyme now.

Back to the toppic though... What I guess I'm looking for is someone who is dedicated to the akai OS. OR one person who has tried the JJ OS and went back to Akai. ONE person! If there are people like that out there, I would love to hear their thought process.

Nobody here fessing up to using the Akai OS... man I think you just converted all the stragglers

lol exact same here. There's no actual logical reason to keep the Akai OS as I see it... so chances of finding even one dude are slim!

i still use the akai OS

I still use Akai ( ducking as I speak !! ) ... OS version 2.11. Works well enough for me ( and my daughter apparently ).

Maybe you should try the free JJ and see how you get on? Even that is a step up from the Akai os and it's FREE!

i am using the akai os. granted, i have only had an mpc1k for two weeks. and it's my first sampler at that. if someone like myself who is still learning installs the jjos now, is it an easy transition at this point? or should i know the akai os front and back before moving on?

I think the answer is that very few people are CHOOSING the Akai OS over JJ. It's what comes with the MPC, in most cases.

It comes down to a persons level of involvement with the equipment. Spending time to even think of upgrading the OS may not make sense to folks who only use the machine for certain functions.

^ I agree. If you're new to production or havent owned many samplers than yea the Akai OS will work for you. If you have been doing it for a while or have owned other samplers then the first time you are on the Akai os you get the feeling something isnt right. With me the JJos had the functionality that I EXPECT the machine to have. The only time I have on the Akai os was the waiting period for JJ to send me my damn password haha

i got jj os1 about a month after i got my mpc only because EVERYBODY kept recommending it. working out great too. probably be a while before i upgrade to jj os 2 because i dont take advantage of everything os 1 has to offer as of yet.

why do that? i mean why learn it front and back and then get JJ OS and re-learn other things.

take it all in one big gulp man.


you should try the free version of JJ OS and then go back to akai and see what the difference is.

In my opinion, there wasn't a HUGE difference between the free JJOS and the Akai one, just a lot of fine tuning and 'that should have been there from the start' things. OS1 & 2 is where you start going whoa...
