Im still kinda trying to figure everything out so how would I know where my tempo should be at?

I find breaks can shift tempo if it is human drummer. Never perfect tempo over say more than one bar. depends. I just play sample at begining of sequence and match sequence length to the sample. play it in a loop, if sample playback overlaps or there is a gap between the samples then adjust BPM. this will give you a pretty close BPM of sample. Also you can layer a track with four to the floor kick to give you a solid reference. Like dj'ing really.
