this is just a suggestion, im not a techy so i cant confirm this:
Maybe the DSP processor in the MPC1000 uses "dynamic voice allocation". which basically means it can have a maximum number of 32 voices depending on the complexity of the sound (how many filters/envelopes/etc.) and sequence.

the only reason im suggesting this is because a synth company (Waldorf) did something similar: They released a keyboard called Q which had 32 voices, regardless of how complex the sounds were, like the MPC2000. Then, they later released the much cheaper MicroQ, which had "25 voices", but it used voice allocation and had less DSP power, so once you started playing complex sounds on it the notes would be cut-off or not triggered, like the MPC1000.

having less DSP than the MPC2000 would also explain why its so much cheaper.

i think im gonna have to agree with your theory...

it seems real logical that the big downgrade from those products on this machine would be that area of most...and it might be the reason of the shortage of other additions aswell, since it might overload/conflict with the DSP cituation...

thats crossed my mind a few times but i never thought in depth about it like you put it...n now that you have...i think im gonna have to go with that untill prooven otherwise i guess...just gonna have to take it for what its worth i guess...i mean if you can make 10 beats and sell em for 100 each...you earned your money back n you shouldnt complain if you maintained to make that much off it...ect...ect...in the long run...just make beats with what you got...

-pete rock still uses a SP1200...which has its limits...but thats where the heart is at with him...so having limitations isnt a bad thing...just gotta work with it and around it...n in the end its all about what sounds hot n what does not...

Sounds very logical!

Personally I haven't had a problem with my 1k, but my old Kurzweil (also 32-voice) sequencer does this. Sometimes I have to delete less important notes in order to prevent others from being cut off. I then have to re-add the deleted notes by hand on my multitrack.

Thanks--Peace--B.

The 1000 actually has MORE power than the 2000xl. I think it's problems stem from rewriting the software when moving code from the NEC based 2000xl, to the SH3-DSP based 1000. Recently someone actually POLITELY wrote to akai, describing SPECIFICALLY a problem (timing), and akai responded with promises of a fix in the next update. These types of problems can cause both dropped voices and bad sequencer timing.

In my mind, the 1000 could easily replace the 2000xl. All it needs from Akai is some software support. I'd bet Akai makes more money off the 1000 than they do from the 2000xl (cheaper to produce). But the 2000xl is still selling, so Akai won't overlap the products too much (Jeep did the same thing with the Grand Cherokee..it was supposed to replace the Cherokee, but the old truck kept selling, so they decided to sell both for the next 6 years!).

thats right...i do remember the email sent back...looking forward to the updates coming to help that cituation...i can work around the rest of the needs...
