Hey all. I'm very new to this whole MPC thing. Here's my questions: what would be the best way to record on an MPC using a mic? I want to record acoustic guitar, electric guitar, vocals, and maybe some percussion here and there. I'm not really trying to make beats or anything like that at the moment, I'm really just trying to record some demos using real instruments and whatnot. I have experience with pro-tools and I'm pretty much trying to substitute that with the MPC. I really wanna make this as simple as possible so I'd rather record tracks straight through and just lay them on top of each other to make a song.

Anyway... how the hell do I this correctly without killing anything and whats the best way to do this? I hear that plugging the mic directly into the MPC is not a good idea... I'm not sure why. It seems to work nicely so someone please enlighten me. I'm also thinking I should mic the amp when recording guitar. Whatever... HELP!

Thanks!

If the mic sounds OK, and you can get it loud enough to record a hot signal that is close to clipping, then it should be fine, it is not going to hurt the mic or the MPC.

And yes, you should mic the guitar amp, as a direct guitar signal, without the amp tone, is probably not what you are looking for.

Okay okay cool. Do you know of any tutorials that could help me figure out this learning curve for what I want to use the MPC for? While I know what to record , I'm still unsure of how to actually get this done on the MPC.

@Stadic - Welcome to the MPC guild of music-makers. It's a wonderful place to be.

Check out some of the MPC 1K tutorials from this YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/onelonedork). I remember him having a tutorial uploaded SPECIFICALLY for recording vocals/guitars to the MPC 1K. It's not very long but it's very to-the-bone. In fact, if you're bored you should watch most of his MPC stuff. All very easy to understand.

Anyway, hope that helps for now. More questions are going to pop up so remember to refer to your manual first. If you cannot be helped there, blame Akai and then come here.

Peace!
