On what some of you music professionals think about the Mbox, is there a much better alternative for the money?

I own a mbox. I think at the time I was naive, and wanted pro tools. But after owning it for a year, and much research from that time on. There are much better alternatives. The mbox is great if you a entry level, and portable way to get into pro tools. After knowing all that I know now I probaly wouldn't get it, but not to say its bad, but that there are some better choices out that would probaly suit me better.

Finally someone has come foward. When I got my MP I was looking into to, but I got my MP but when I did my research I seen that is was a scam if you were a hardware artist. I know people who use a MP, triton and other gear with a mbox. I don't know how they do it. It takes them forever to track a beat. But on the other hand if you are using a program like Reason and want to rewire into protools to record vocals then the mbox is a good buy. But in the hardware world your best bet is one of the other DAW's(sonar/DP/logic/cubase) or buy a hardware recorder.

i like pro tools, but there are better options out there. If its going to benefit you then use it, but believe to much of the hype mksphnx2001. I really don't find it that hard to track a beat with the mbox. I record all my loops, and whatever else i have layed out on the mpc, and cut and paste in Acid, which works very fast for me. then when needed rewire acid inside of pro tools to get those final touches. Sorry to get off the subject.

Its kind of hit or miss with sound cards. I have a maudio 1814 and its a pain in the ass becasue it always crashes with sonar, but when I use it with cool edit it works and I can record 8 tracks of audio with no hiccups. But cool edit doesn't have midi clock(or at least I don't know how to make it work), but I know people who record with it flawlessly. So your going to have to look around, but I have heard great things about the presonis fire pod and it even comes with cubase LE which is more than enough to get you going

I got Protools and its the best, but I have the digi 002. the mbox dosnt have midi ports so no midi sync. there is pro-tools empowerd that works with M-Audio devices which would give midi and be around $700 total.
