so i just took a monoL sample but when i go to trim mode and play it back, i swear its stereo? is this supposed to be the case?

oh i get it now. i guess its supposed to be like that. now i understand why so many cats sample mono. looks like i'm about to take another sharp turn.

i never wanted to sample mono b/c i tought i would end up with audio only on one side and i like stereo. but as it turns out when you sample in mono it records from only one channel, L or R. but when you play back that sample it gives the effect of stereo by playing that mono recording on both channels. this way the sounds aren't all jumbled together so its easier to seperate the sounds i want. and i guess since there is less going on in seperate channels, my filters will probably seem much stronger. there might be an occasion where i go back to stereo sampling for a richer sound but damn i was just thinkin the other day, i will never need to sample 12m14s and now i,ve got 24m28s. i love this machine.

is mono recording in this sense when you record wit a mic?

or do you mean instead of jus pluggin in both the rca's the left and the right you only plug in one?

for example say i'm recording something off the boob tube? jus use one rca output on the mpc and it'll be stereo when i play back the sample?

thanks for the info guy...

oh no, i mean when i am in rec mode on MPC, switch it from stereo to monoL or monoR dependeing on which one you want. i don't know if you have to but i still plug both plugs from rca into mpc

I havent tried sampling into the MPC in mono, but it's good to know that it does play back on both outputs. This wouldn't be considered true-stereo sound from these samples. The end result is technically dual-mono. It's definitely worth the extra sampling time, depending on the nature of the original sample (which may be dual-mono to begin with).

L Mono = Left Channel only R mono = Right only, Stereo = L & R

The L mono / R mono record in doesnt record stereo it records mono, It just sounds like mono because its playing back in both L & R speakers, But the sample is Mono. Some stuff you can record mono. Example, Say you have a sample and both Left and Right Chan. are the same, Why use more memory . Also Recording mono comes in handy say if you have a really old vinyl that sounds real shi tty on the right and the left sounds good, ( I know I had this problem when im dealing with mad old vinyl), you would record the Left cutting the Right. It may look like a stereo sample in trim mode, but it isnt. ITs a mono Sample. There are so many reasons why you would record In mono. But try to stay with stereo, It gives it a nice real sound.

Dude I thought L+R was stereo sound?

He means that the sample was just the left side (for example) of the original sound, but on playback the MPC plays that sound through both left and right. The *original* right channel is lost.

well please explain then...

wait i think i got it...

guy was simply talkin bout the record mode huh? using both inputs i.e. keepin the the left and right rca plug in has nothing to do wit it..

its all bout the record mode your in? aka even if you have them both plugged in if you choose under record mode monoL it would only record from the left side of things....

but when you play it in trim mode it would duplicate that LEFT side recordin to the right side, thus simulatin "stereo" sound and makin a newbie think its stereo?

right? did i get it right now?

main i'm all new to this....so what seems simple to yall is new and confusin to me...

i barely recordedmy 1st samples the other day still workin on how to loop em...on playback..

also got to grind fierce....
