daaaammmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!, Ant, how the hell you remember that shyt?? HAHAHA yeah, my son was messing around with the CF card and shoved it in the wrong way and my pins were bent, almost laying flat. i called akai cause i have like a 4 yr warranty or something like that. and they told me that bent pins are not covered under the waranty, so being the computer geek that i am, i took it apart and with a pair of needle nose pliers and a tweezer, i was able to fix it. now you can't even tell the pins were bent. card reader is literally as good as new.

Ant, i can't believe you remember that, fam.

my head works in funny ways - sometimes, little bits and pieces stick with me and come up at opportune times. wasn't that something like early spring?

haha i dunno man. i'm no savant, but i swear, sometimes it feels like i've got a HDM10 and a half-fried toshiba 40 gig in my head already.

Check it... I had my CF reader **** up on me when i first got my MPC... I sent it into Akai (or one of the contractors they use to fix their broke shiat). They said the piece was on back order for like 5 months, i was like **** that send the MPC back to me. But before they sent it back i had called Akai directly and talked to someone over there and convienced them to look in their graveyard. They found an old MPC wit a good CF reader, sent it over to the subcontractors and they got it fixed within like 2 weeks. All and all i think i was without my MPC for like 2 months, maybe a lil longer...

Good luck dawg...
Peace,

The tricky thing is that it might be some kind of logic or electronic component on the PCB, or it might be a mechanical problem with the drive or wiring. You could maybe replace the drive itself by cannibalizing a cheap CF memory reader but it is a pretty simple mechanism and it is more likely an electronic component (unless you know how the CF reader was damaged).

You are better off, in time and money, finding a competent repair person. CF drives aren't really drives at all but basically a physical interface to the logic of the board so the way they "fail" is different than a hard drive or floppy drive.
