Will you need to buy a new 1K for the new OS?

(first post) I was looking around hearing about the new OS; is it a downloadable 'patch' or will you need to buy a whole new 1000 to use it?

you will be required to buy a new mpc1000 with the os, which sucks because they are raising the price.

the issue is that the new mpc1000 uses a ram with a different chipset than the old. the old could use 3rd party ram by "doubling up," a term used to describe how 256mb ram can be used to simulate a 128 EXM akai ram.

the new mpc os requires hardware which does not "double up"

this presents a huge problem for me because 1--i really don't like the new black scheme of the new mpcs and 2--i really can't afford to drop 1000 dollars on the exact same mpc that i've had for almost a year now.

you can see the predicament...

It's not so bad though, because akai has a trade in program in the works for this very problem. You ship me your 1k, and in 5-6 business days from the day that I receive it, a stork swoops in and delivers you a brand new 1k with an 80 gig drive, and dre's drums...don't ask about the drums. I'm sending you my address in a pm, right now.

So they are not releasing the update for everyone to use??

I always figured the search more for the typical 20 times-per-day nublet questions. I'm just a little confused about this since you got one guy sayin you gotta wait for the new one, and another saying no. I don't think the search is gonna clear that up. True, maybe someone asked about this in the 77 page, but I don't have all night here.

the reason "one guy sayin you gotta wait for the new one" is because you could have easily found this info with minimal research and or effort.

HAHHAHA download and install the OS? that's some funny shit. you guys don't know anything. the new OS will come on a new MPC AKAI will ship to you. Your MPC with the old OS on it will stop working 8 hours after the new OS is released. it has a 120gb hd, 512mb ram, 2 lcd screens, 4 xtra pads, a blunt roller, but no time stretch.

the funny thing is that posting wacky answers as a "joke" might get more newbie taking it seriously and asking even more panicked questions.

anyway, when i see the amount of newbie bashing laytely, it makes me think that the wait for the new os does not go too well. oh, monday is not always a great day either...
nevertheless, internet boards psychology is always interesting. (not sure what really means "nevertheless" but it sounds good to me)
