i need advice, my mpc is still messed up

it keeps crashing after long sessions, either by the whole screen going blank, or an error will appear saying 'cpu write error'....does this sound like a damaged cpu?

If it is how would u go about fixing, bearing in mind i bought this secondhand and have no warranty.

sorry to nag about this again, but this is a real serious hardware prob im sure, and im desperate for some advice.

no xtra ram installed just the 16megs, os 1.07 (reinstalled several times)

rob, that definitely sounds like a faulty cpu to me. you need to find an authorized akai repair center near you and have them look at it. ther'es really nothing else you can do at this point.

"CPU write error" sounds bad.
Akai Europe is based in the UK. Call them, maybe they can give you some info about service?

Did you buy it used or new m8?

the mpc was secondhand, no warranty.......cheers for that number, ill give it a ring on tuesday when they will prob be open. help appreciated. i mean anyone heard of cpu's breaking down on the mpc's. and how much am i likely to get charged for a replacement if that is the prob

heh, whait and see if OS2 (i hate the word) fixes it all..

Check your RAM. Do you have 128MB installed? If so, it might be loose.

Rob, i'd do what Soyo said, wait for 2.0 first before you get it fixed (£££). You got no warranty anyway.
Small chance but you never know...
Also, did you use 1 CF card during these problems you're having? Have you tried another, perhaps you got the original Akai 32MB that came with the 1K.
Just to eliminate the possibility the CF is loading corrupt data.

yeh same cf card, but i hav formatted it in the mpc several times. its just 'cpu write error' is a little worrying....i mean has no one ever seen or heard of that before?

is it in an area with proper ventilation?
it sounds like it is over-heating.

if you had a physically damaged CPU, odds are it'd just be a paperweight, it actually working suggests over heating.

u know that could well be it. my room does get quite hot. but is there any way to keep fanned better. and quite surprised if thats the case then why hasnt anyone else had the same probs, chances are not everyone keeps their mpc in a perfect studio environment. i seriously hope thats all it is, i guess it makes sense a pc wouldnt switch on if the cpu was damaged, but overheating can cause to restart itself. but it never feels too hot. any tips to keep it cooler

new error, ive seen it before but havnt mentioned it. it says "illegal slot instruction exception" and then a list of coded stuff. usually get this one actually, or screen will just go blank, or the 'cpu write error'

last week I had my MP on for maybe 4 hours and when I tried to load something from CF card, "CPU Address error" popped out. I had to reboot everything. Anyone seen that one before?

yup i get that one too. wish i had an answer.

it got to be overheating thou,but my room is cold as fukk but after an hour or two the MP is kinda warm on top and bottom. I have it on a wooden desk and it's sitting next to a turntable. I don't know why it should get hot in 2 hours or so.
