1000 or fantom x-6

I bought an mpc in december from guitar center and got a gift recebit, so i returned it a couple weeks ago so i could have a brand new one or the bk when it comes out, bascily i had a mpc for a month, beat it like a red headed step child and returned it. So I was going to just pick up another one but then I saw a nice Roland Fantom X-6 for a very reasonbale price, I have yet to use one, but my friend has the fantom rack and its nasty and is telling me to get the fantom. What would you guys get? I posted it in the mpc 1k forum to see if anybody who is an mpc fan would get the X-6. I know the X-6 is a whole different beast then the 1k, Im just not sure if I want a workstation or have a mpc, synth,rack modules ect..

I've messed with x-6 before, and its a pretty cool piece. but me personally like the mpc workflow. But as far workstaions goes your gettin sounds, sampling, and sequencing. If it fits you go for it. I personally wouldn't I'm more sampled based, and don't use to many keyboard sounds. I do own a Emu mk-6, but mainly sample into the ASR 10, and then Sequence with mpc...... Plus you can expand the sound library on it i think. But theres on thing I don't like on the fantom are the pads. The pads on those things suck, but thats really my only gripe about it.

I got both the Fantom and the MPC. I have been using the Fantom longer though and have not quite gotten used to the MPC. I am more of a non sampling type of person So I prefer the Fantom more. The Fantom has advantages. It has a sampler already and you get sounds and all the features if not more of the MPC. If I where you I would probably get an MPD-16 or a M Audio Trigger Finger and the Fantom. You can midi them and use the Fantom for sounds and for sampling!

Nah, fuċk those generic a$$ plastic sounds of the fantom man. Get the mpc and some vinyl and start bangin thos pads man!

The MPC 1000 and the Fantom X6 are not in the same class (the Fantom costs twice as much) and serve different purposes.

If you are looking for a music workstation, go with the Fantom X6. The pads are not that great but they do their job (the same can be said with the 1000s pads). The Fantom X6 has a more advanced sampler than the 1000 not to mention all the on board sounds..

Exaclty. The Fantom is more advance and its pretty simple to use.

I found the sampler less advanced when it comes to timestretch and zoning etc.

The thing is if you make like 50-cent style hiphop (god forbid) the fantom is great for you. but if you are more into jay dee, pete rock stuff then you are a mpc man...

I have both of them joints the 1k and the Fantom x6....I must say they are wayyyyy different, I love the sequencer on the mpc .....the Fantom is a lil tricky.


I love them both equally, but hands down the Fantom is a fluckin beast!!!!!!

If you can get both do it :0) but yeah the Fantom x6 has everything, thats the one thing you have to keep in mind.

Only my guess...but you must have not taken the time to fully learn and use the Fantom X6s sampler. Timestretch in the Fantom X6(as well as many other Roland products) is its strength.

Zoning?? Are you refering to slicing/chopping samples?

I would get the X6.

Funny this thread should pop up.

I'm researching into a load of stuff as i want to build on my software setup with some proper hardware.

First started off looking at the MPC1000 and 2500, decided on the latter. But then i sat down and thought i would need to buy a module on top of this for sounds as i like to compose as well as sample.

I'm now looking at the Fantom X or the Motif ES (i know it doesn't sample), i've been put off the Triton due to so many people claiming that it has been played out.

I just dont know how to go about it!

Get a rack version and an MPC1k or just go for a workstation and sell my current midi keyboard. If i got the workstation i'd probably want to buy a trigger finger as the Fantom pads seem kinda small.

I honestly think you guys should shoot for a Fantom and a MPD. Not bashing on the MPC at all but I think I should have gotten the MPD instead. Why would you need to samplers? (A question a friend asked me) I am pretty much using the MPC 1000 as a controller for now although a friend told me not to get it. However, I am going to use it though as a stand alone system. I do not want to feel like I paid so much money for it and I am not going to squeeze the juice out of it. My 2 Cents.

you know what doesn't sample? the motif es? hell yeah it does. the keyboard, though, not the rack.

Hmm...if you got a Fantom X6 and sampled, for example, a bass note could you play that on the keyboard to make bass lines etc?
