OS 2.1 Joys - Please read first post.

i locked the other thread because it is getting out of control.


This thread (at least for right now) should be where you put all of your new found tricks, tips, potential "(state your name) glitches, etc... here. once the "Newness" of the new OS is worn off, this is where we can put things as stated above.

Please DO NOT repeat what was already mentioned in the other thread, as they will be deleted.

Excuse me if I am repeating this but.......

O.S. 2.1 will Load MPC2000 .SND files and PROGRAMS!!!! I was very suprised that it actually did the .PGM file.

We're still SOL on the .ALL files though.

Now if only BlueBox could handle those .SND's and old school PGM's.

waxageis (the writer of bluebox) is working on this. but you're right, it doesn't load .ALL files.

or all of those who use my drum pgms - you will often find that the best kits according to your songs are found from multiple pgms. ie, in your kick/snare track, you may use "impeachprez" pgm and for your hat track you might use "nym got some"

this is very frustrating as you may clutter up your mpc with too many programs. this is a problem i often had in the old os. SO here's what you can do to eliminate this:

consolidate using the pad parameter copy that is new to os 2. use as many drum pgms as you want - and then make 1 more pgm called DRUMS and copy the used pads onto the DRUMS pgm in the exact same placement.

then, go back to all your drum tracks and swith the pgm to DRUMS.

done - now delete the pgms of mine you are no longer using and don't forget to purge!!

ah haaaahh! i see now! i was reading it as: "record many times, over the sweep of a qlink" like keep recording the qlink sweep over the top of itself, when you meant "record the sweep of a qlink many times over"! i hope, anyways

I can't believe how many useful features they packed into this new OS! For example, I used to have a separate Sequence for setting up my MIDI devices. I had all the MSB, LSB, and CC# events on each track so all I had to do for each song was to set the correct values and play this one bar sequence before starting the song. No more! Now I can use the built-in Program Change feature. From the main window, select "Pgm" and turn the data wheel until No. n appears (where n is your program number). If you need to switch banks, just press the Window key and you may set the MSB and LSB! It even sends the PC in realtime for selecting sounds on my outboard gear!

I dig the Patched Phrase-option!!

Now you can turn a sample into a patched phrase - and when you turn on "16 LEVELS - Tune" it will only tune the sample! No tempo-shifting!!!!
That's cool!

For those who do not allready know what a reverse reverb is , with the new os you can now easily do it all in the mpc.

Just take a sample and reverse it.
Then assign it to a reverb and resample it.
Then reverse it again.
It gives a nice ghostly effect on vocals.

yeah i'm doing a LOT more resampling back and forth between my sp404 and mpc1000 now so i'll put that into effect.

ps keep em coming, i'm so sick of painting threads and pathetically simple questions. i wish people here would really drop some knowledge like some of the stuff i've been seeing in this thread.

ok here goes....

for the sound that the TARDIS makes in Doctor Who (British Sci-fi series) get a coin and run it up and down the lowest wire in an upright or grand piano.

Oh and sample it too!

ps, that was the actual method they used to create the sound!

When SLICING a sample and switching through the different regions you can just hold a pad and not let go and it will trigger the sounds automatically as you switch between regions. Very smart by AKAI.

at the fact the OS has come out just before i have to play live.... finally I have delay and the real-time volume control in the mixer is sweet.
