Is your HDD running ALL the time?

Mine is... or im not sure its spinning but you can definitely hear it.
All though it stops after like 5 seconds when you go to trim mode.
Im just thinking, can this be good for the harddrive to spin all the time?

And if im turning the mpc off while the hdd is running it goes "fiomp".. am I alone with that too?

my hard drive is old and noisy, so it takes a while before it stops spinning. i'm not sure how much life is left on this old 6gb travelstar, but when it's time to replace it, i got everything backed up.

I really wouldn't worry too much about it, hard drives are meant to last a long long time. I think they are in the neighboorhood of 300 000 - 500 000 hours! Granted if you have a one year warranty (like me) it may not last as long, but some drives have 3-5 year warranties.
