I know I have another thread that kinda involved this one (the one dealing with Cubase), but I wanted to establish whether or not this is a fact before I go further.

Is the MPC1000 multi-timbral when slaved to an external sequencer?

Not sure I understand what your asking here but its 32 voice poly with 32 channels of midi - The way voices are set up in accordance to syncing depend on how u set it up (soundcard etc)

Has that helped in anyway

Basically I'm having an issue getting Cubase to trigger different programs in the MPC at the same time...

I record each track separately (into Cubase's midi seq) , but whenever I go to playback, the programs don't play separately in Cubase. It's as if the MPC isn't getting any channel info from Cubase and just plays all of the midi notes using only 1 program.

Thus the question, can the MPC play more than one program at a time when slaved to an external sequencer? Cause it sure doesn't appear that way.

(here's my original thread with the more detailed question...

"can the MPC play more than one program at a time when slaved to an external sequencer? "

No. And there is a good reason for it: It's a waste of money. If you need a slave sampler you are much better off getting something like an S2000 for under 200 USD which has ten times better sample engine AND is 16 part multitimbral.

Not sure about the 10 times better part Mr MPC3000???

S2000 only allows 32 mb's ram...am i not right. nothing ground breaking.

Software samplers are 10 times better!!!

I don't know if I agree. It's already multitimbral from the sequencer's point of view. It's just that the data from the MIDI IN streams into the sequencer first, where it's filtered. It'd be a small piece of code to allow MIDI IN through to the sampler part of the MPC. Of course, it would be nice to have a s2000-esque sampler built in as the sampling engine (honestly, that's what I used to think they were!)...

Obviously you have not used the S2000. If memory capacity is as far as you can think, then I have nothing more to say to you.

""Software samplers are 10 times better!!!"

In that case, bye. You will be missed.

"It'd be a small piece of code to allow MIDI IN through to the sampler part of the MPC."

The current midi handling is exactly that of the MPC3000/2000 and does not have nearly the flexibility of the more expensive current production model MPC2000XL midi routing. Regardless I still stand by original statement, if you are going to need to sequence externally, get a better sampler. Sorry, but Akai has not been able to fit an S series sampler AND and MPC sequencer in a budget machine yet (no one has).

Question for u mr3000. What u say is that 2kXL has this midi properties? XL can be all programmed via MIDI?
And in 2kXL the max resolution is 96 as in the 1k?
Thanks man

"What u say is that 2kXL has this midi properties?"

The XL is multi-timbral as seen by external sequecners, if that is what you are referring to.

"XL can be all programmed via MIDI?"

Program what?

That's pretty wack how the xl is multi-timbral as seen by external sequencers but the 1000 isn't. I'm hoping that this is something that will be fixed in later OS patches.

"this is something that will be fixed in later OS patches"

Fixed? What is broken? I do not see externally `multi-timbral` promised in the spec's anywhere. Following your definition it is also broken since it does not have a 24/96 capabilities of the MPC4000. There are reasons it is $320 cheaper than the XL.

This does not mean they would not add it, but please do not call something broken just because another model has it.

Maybe 'fixed' wasn't the correct semantics to use, but I think that it's a flaw that should be addressed with a new OS patch. Even though the mpc1000 isn't necessarily a total upgrade of the 2000xl, I'm surprised that Akai would take a step backwards in flexibilty on this later release.

I think the 1000 were made for people who have never owned an MPC before &/or were never able to afford one. I've owned one for a few weeks now & I find that it's missing out on too many features & I'm seriously considering a 4k.

I've spoke to tek support before about features & they will not upgrade the software to be comparable to the 2kXL - it would defeat the object of bringing out the 1k.

I"m a bit disappointed to find certain typical features of the MPC missing on the 1k but what can you do except go for the XL or the 4k! My poor bank account
