Okay fellas, I know there are postings here about the subject, but I wanted to start a new one to help weed thru the madness. I hope this information is useful for someone.

I just recently bought a Black MPC 1000 on Nov 16th that had the OLD PADs. After having a few problems with the machine and reading the forums I learned of the new pad upgrade. I decided to exchange my original MPC for a new one at Guitar center today! The rep I always work w/ was great about the situation. He told me they had just gotten 5 in shipment recently 3 were shipped on Nov 18th, and another 2 after Nov 20th. The 2 shipped on Nov 20th were the New MPC's with NEW PAD's. Needless to say I got the new one.

Okay, so here is what I am seeing is different in the new one vs. the old. The Black Packaging box on the new MPC had a green box with an "A" inside it...right above the UPC/Serial/Sku #'s. My old Packaging Box did not have this.

I also noticed a difference in the serial #'s
Old serial=107xxx2230xxxx
New Serial=K107xxx2230xxxx(notice the K)

I am not sure if any of this makes a difference, I wanted to post whatever info I could.

BTW-The pads feel great

this has been posted already, it would have been good to post in the above thread...member Crossings was kind enough to provide pics of how to do it. thanks for the additional notes you took regarding the serial number, and i'm glad you got what you deserve/paid for.

just to follow-up... you should all know that antonym's technique of distinguishing new pads from old ones is probably the quickest way to confirm if your mpc came shipped with the new ones or not. and it's real easy to do too.

as soon as i took it out the box, i went for pad #13 and pulled the upper left corner out of the frame gently with my fingernail...

i could tell right away when the excess rubber popped out, that these were definitely the new pads...

Image

and don't worry... the excess rubber lip can be tucked back under the frame easily and your mpc will be back to normal in seconds...

my model is just the MPC1000BK... it does not have the letter N... i'm still not sure if there are any differences between that model and mine... but these are definitely the new pads.

hope this helps some of you...

I know it was posted. I have actually read that thread....but how many outlets are going to let you completely pull the MPC out the box and pull a pad out at the corner??

I posted to try and help prospective buyers determine from a superficial point of reference as far as the serial #/and packaging are concerned. Not for people who already are sitting on a machine.

I guess I should have titled the thread differently!!

Thx Antonym

any place that lets you buy an mpc.
buy it, sit down right there in the store, open the box, try to do what is done on the pictures, and then return it if it doesn't happen!
