..recording time on a sample

So, i'm trying to record from an external synth. the sample is an arpeggiated loop that's 8 bars long and roughly around 16 seconds long

Firstly, am i right recording this in as a sample?
i need to do a few of these on each of my songs and layer them up.. so, in MPC 5000 terms am i approaching this the right way by recording it as a sample and sticking it into a sequence?

secondly and most importantly, do i need to free up the RAM or something to get some recording time back?
and if so, how do i do this?

any help is greatly appreciated.. i've been using an SP404 until now, so this is day one for me with an MPC

I've never used a MPC5000 but there should be a field on the sampling page to adjust the sampling time.
Ten seconds is the usual default setting on MPCs
If you want longer you need to set it first.
Hope this helps.

Trying to navigate without getting familiar with your new toy?

These new school mpc's are a lil' bit different than their older counterparts, so maybe settling down with the manual will help some.

there's a serious learning curve on these, for me anyway, so just trying to learn by figuring out the things i know how to do on other samplers

Oh, you're good. That's why I stated it without trying to bash and whatnot. Keep at it and most importantly, take your time.

thanks for all the help
this seems like a really cool forum!

.. keep the sample after your don't recording it. Then save the sample. make s new folder on the cf card if you have one. If not the hard drive will do. I have and use a 5k so if I can help you after you have read the manual, hit me up. I have been playing with reverse programming all week and I'm catching on.. recording wit 100% window 80% strength sms 64% swing at 1/16. Then changing it to 1/4 after. Make sick ass breaks.. anyways ya just keep playing with it and have fun.
