i think we may have to rename this place and just call it "Diggers"

we can have nose diggers, hole diggers, mp3 diggers and we can all come together and discuss how we dig....

e diggin aint diggin, blogs and sh!t are set up by other diggers / collectors.. ur not finding anything new by using them to get ur breaks. u are just using theyre collection. The sh!ts already found they spent the time goin through the crates.. learnin theyre sh!t, what to look for what to avoid etc, its not like diggin for original breaks.. its simply from some ones collection, thats not evolvin the scene or doing anything for diggin, its just taking from it.

Also u can bet that person with the blog isnt sharin theyre real gems, just a few things they dont mind sharing.. the way to evolve the scene is to dig urself and find gems urself.. regardless to if u choose to share them in the form of the break, or keep them to urself and maybe use them for ur beats. So called "e diggin" aint diggin and aint doin nothin for the scene.

Fair enough do what u do.. if u wanna make beats and its nice access to breaks to do so go ahead.. u can also learn alot and hear things as well as learn names so its a good learnin point, i know i've used blogs alot in past to do this and have some nice easy beat material as well as learning alot about what to dig for, but nowadays i just dig for that sh!t and come up on better sh!t then on blogs, plus i "own" the breaks then in a physical format which is much better.. and also come up on breaks that are more original that i havent heard else where and i can use for my sh!t and have people wondering where i got it and lookin for it.. not a break that 100,000 kids and theyre grandma all got from this 1 (or 50) blog(s)

All those points are great.

however if someone wants to just make some beats, has no turntable and/or no access to good records or access to no records period because of their location, or even just starting and need some kind of jumpoff. Who the hell is anyone to tell them to not do it?

I get my sounds from every source I can. I dig, get sounds from DVD's, CD's, cassettes, the library, and MP3's. I think it's stupid to limit your resources in anyway. Who cares if you find something on an MP3 that's b een sampled before? I actually went digging and bought hundreds of records over the years and guess what...I still came up with a lot of stuff that has been used before.

Also, not all blogs are run by beatmakers. A lot of them just enjoy music and post it. There's a huge chance that you run into stuff that hasn't been sampled before, or guess what?... that there is not a chance in hell you're going to find locally on vinyl and for cheap.

Some of the stuff I found on the intenet I would have NEVER found otherwise, or would have never spent the crazy amount of money for.

As far as using stuff that hasn't been sampled before...everyone's favorite producer has sampled something that's been used before. It depends on the flippage or not even...just how the final song comes out.

Also, chances are if you get your hands on an album, vinyl or MP3, that's been sampled by everyone and their grandmother..chances are it's a dope enough album you'll find other stuff on there that is dope that hasn't been sampled yet. Case in point, I don't care how many times Nautilus gets sampled...the beats still turn out fresh most of the time. There are so many different parts of that song that you can make hundreds of beats that sound nothing like each other..I bet you can still make a dope beat out of parts of Nautilus that haven't been used before.

All in all...as long as your beats are dope...who cares??

Sampling from vinyl or any source for that matter is something that's frowned upon in society, so who cares about MP3's. It's still theft of other people's material at the end of the day. Why even try and legitimize one aspect of it more than another? It's all the same sh!t in reality.

Also, to even think that finding something no one has heard....on any format is just ridiculous. The ONLY way you will find something to sample that hasn't been heard is if you sample some studio session takes BEFORE a band or artist puts out the album.

There's NO restristions to sampling source and there's NO limits to use per sample

anyone says different needs to revise a few things

Just make or do whats good for you.....

THIS IS IN RESPONCE TO SOME IDIOTS WHO WROE EARLIER!

Its not a huge deal how u get the samples....just get em and beast out on em.....I hate when ppl say oh u gotta go buy this buy that but they never take in the fact that some ppl dont have the means to do so. The point is to get rare shit not just collect....unless that what u do is collect. But most ppl who search for samples actually use em to make tracks not listen to like a old man or some shit.

Cats kill me with that stat quo ish....REALTALK.

By Lineman Wed Aug 01, 2007 3:47 pm
I can say the source doesnt matter i got at least 1500 records in the basement...cats talking bout there breaks they bought and how they sounds different....once u throw em in pro tools and add effects and ish noone will know the difference but you the Creator. ****** is stuck in the 80's...Realtalk.

Can't nobody tell u how to grind for ur ish....and as for the "rare gems" unless u collecting em and selling records for $400 a pop whats the point of u "collectors" having it? Just to say i got a rare record noones ever heard and never will? Whats the logic in that.

haha.. of course... i dont think people read my post properly.. or it was selective reading where they seemed to forget certain things..

Like where i said if its just for makin beats and to get some dope easy access beat material go ahead.. and i also mentioned that i do this as well.. not so much these days although i used to alot.. but i still do.. and i DID NOT tell people not to.. so where u peeps are getting that from i dont know.. re read my post and dont just browse over it, u need to read word for word.

And when i talked about it not helpin the scene evolve and only taking from it in regards to gettin breaks from blogs... im not speaking on beat making at all.. im simply speaking on digging... on the point of discovering new breaks and moving the scene foward with that instead of the same breaks floating around in circles.. which is cool.. but the scene always needs fresh sh!t and a balence between the 2... imagine if everyone stopped diggin and only used whats already been found / known.. sh!t would get stale..

People need to learn to read properly on forums and not lightly browse over posts with such a quick urge to reply.. i dont understand how peeps do that and reply on things they have got wrong when it was all there for them to read in the first place.

Please.. before respondin again.. re read my other post.. and re read this one as well, both of them properly.. so u understand.

Thanks

See thats where ur gettin me wrong as well.. I agree with what ur saying here 100%, thats my views on it... u just not reading properly and jumpin to reply before understanding.. maybe this here will clear it up for u....

Im not talkin so called "rare gems" that are known around certain circles and paid highly for.. those peeps think they playin the game but they gettin played"..

I AM INFACT TALKING.. about finding things that are amazingly dope and not seemed to be known especially around the real "into it" diggers and collectors u on about. With the "rare gems" u talking bout fair enough it might be a dope record but thats silly payin in the hundreds for it.. sooner or later u might be lucky and stumble on it cheap.. thats what its about, but surly its better to go diggin and find amazingly dope sh!t that doesnt seem to be known by the "majority" yet..

Then if u choose to let the cat out of the bag, it might happen to be common in alot of shops.. or it might happen to be rare with no one being able to find it.. if its the second one out of those choices u then have if u wanna go by the "bullsh!t mentality" a 50 pence / cents record that u have just turned into a few hundred pounds / dollars record and everyone is looking for it coz its so dope.. besides the "bullsh!t mentality" diggers / collectors who are lookin for it coz its dope.. but more for the reason that its "rare" which is bullsh!t. Im not and was never talking about that i dont agree with that sh!t thats why i been saying "original" breaks! as in "original to the finder" not rare gems as in "real known but hard to come by"

When i was speakin bout gems.. i was talking real dope sh!t, whats dope and whats not is always subjective.. based on personal opinion.. whats a gem to me might not be to u vise versa... IM talking bout gems as in peoples fav real dope breaks, and i was talkin peoples personal gems as in real dope sh!t they personally found while diggin which they havent heard else where (IE: not a popular known but hard to come by break, which is what u thought I was talking about).

See please as i say understand what im sayin before u reply with these things... coz u takin sh!t totally out of context and gettin sh!t wrong.. which can only be from not reading properly.. or maybe not taking the time to think about it before replying.. why u in such a rush to respond? surly its better to understand the facts... otherwise ur not learning anything at the end of the day and wasting ur time with an argument which doesnt hold any ground as ur arguing against the opposite meaning of the post.. there for arguing with the same thing.. which isnt an argument.. in a way its more an agreement just worded in our own unique ways, main thing is tho... u took me totally wrong.. maybe this post will clear it up, maybe u need to re read my previous posts carefully and think about it maybe what im actually saying will click now.

Its not a case of people skimming your posts, its more a case of you come on here and almost state what others should be doing.

example:

you started your post with "e diggin aint diggin"

Why??? to some it isn't but to others it is........ your opinion is yours and I always respect peoples opinions, but you do need to clarify sometimes bro, not dictate.. I've taken from the web and i've also given to it but it don't make me any worse for beat collecting, if cats do that (as you and I have done) then you gotta accept it as you would respect those that collect the original vinyl. The simple truth is that what gets lost nowadays is that the people who started this were not that interested in the vinyl itself, they just wanted that 2 second break or loop plain and simple, if they had access to other resources like we do now then I can assure you that they would be all over it now, I'd put money on the fact that premo, PR, Dre etc scan the web for info they never knew, thats how I sold a break to Dre years ago purely by crossing paths on a forum and me putting up a sound clip that interested him, he then got the original from me and put it to use.... My point is that there are no restrictions to this artform and the day that we move from the whole point of how hip hop started then we lose hip hop (diggin included)

you say that the scene must move forward.... well the web is part of that progression my friend, hate it or love it we have it! and that includes diggin......

Example 2: you say..

imagine if everyone stopped diggin and only used whats already been found / known.. sh!t would get stale..

Go check out Jazzy Jeff's latest where every track uses samples from way back that have been used plenty of times.... sure don't sound stale to me. JJ is like many producers, he probably has many gems but obviously he got that old school feel for his latest work and he went with it..... Gets my respect (esp for the Pazant bro's loop)

Peeps do read your posts bro and don't assume otherwise because the replies show it, just try not to show your opinion as the way it is out there. I'm not attacking you mate as I know you have plenty to share and offer peeps out there, just sometimes you need to chill a bit and enjoy your own knowledge.

learn, discover, enjoy, school, encourage.... Peace

cosign completely agree.

I just don't see the effort in e-digging. It easy as hell. I do download from blogs sometimes though just to listen on things i might have missed out on though. I could never use some internet shit tho.

Serious tho man.. things still being taken wrong.. im not talkin certain individuals are alot of peeps flippin the same things.. thats real good to hear especially when done nice.. and u and I both know i do that quite often myself...

Im just taking if no one was digging for new sounds.. no one at all, if peeps was just focusing on "known breaks".. everyone cant make fresh sh!t with the same breaks, im not talking now or a few heads... im talking what things would evolve into.. which takes time of course but would make a big difference..

As for the dictating.. its like peeps talking half my posts and missing out small bits... only thing i was dictating was bout peeps reading posts fully.. which was more directed at peeps like "Lineman" who was infact only taking half of what I was saying, not only that but taking it the total opposite was to how i intended.. its like half of every post is being missed and peeps picking up on small things...

Also again.. i was only stating about the digging scene.. not making beats, which i have said a few times now... so ur analogy bout how jazzy jef flipped for his album doesnt come into it. In regards to beat making i said flip whatever... build with whatever... cd.. mp3.. record.. dont matter, i was only speaking on the diggin scene itself between the peeps who are sharing knowlege and breaks with each other... peeps cant share the same known breaks for the next 30 years on without findin fresh new sh!t to keep the scene fresh, thats all i was talking on i wasnt talking on actual building in regards to that.. i said build with whatever is dope beat material and u feeling whatever the format.

So there is proof that things are getting missed in my posts which is resulting in posts being taken totally the wrong way.

I could go on but theres no point.. so im gonna go make a beat

Peace

I should also what im talking about in regards to e diggin is.. (which i have already said in a previous post)...

Its not diggin as such.. it is sharing in another record enfusiasts (excuse the spelling) collection, it is sharing in what they have chosen to share.. both audio and information... the medium in which they share this audio info be it in person, over phone, with comps they have put together, on a forum, a blog they have made... or any other means... its still one in the same.. communication and sharing..

...which is part of being a digger and learning off one another but its not actual "diggin" which im sure peeps can grasp here.. its not the same as going out through cheap records finding hidden dope lil (or big) bits of audio which can both be enjoyed by listening to or building with.. things with that certain sound which translates into hiphop if u wanna put it that way.

Im not bashing anything, which is the thing.. which has also been stated.. but people are leaving behind those parts of the posts... the explaniations into my reasons for certain things.. and the context of my statements.

I have also said i do these things too.. i just dont call them digging, and not only do

By Lineman Thu Aug 02, 2007 3:21 pm
I think to each is his own....and ppl just took ur post for literal meaning. Mainly cause its a forum and we cant take it for more than its worth. Normally its how you say something...but in this case its what you said that got us to this other chapter.
