i dont condone a dusty fingers...**** that in my opinion. i think it defeats the purpose of really digging for gems...look, he plays lots of library sht, lots of obscurities, i dont care whos been diggin for 20 years, alot of the sht on those artists albums has not been flipped yet, plain an simple...so go find the album, instead of relying on some dude making mixes for hip hop producers to make beats with haha..thats just lame i think...i find sht ALL THE TIME that hasnt been sampled yet, u just gotta dig deeper man, thats it. and listen better. you might as well buy a drum sample cd to go along with your dusty fingers. sampling compilations to me isnt always a bad thing, especially if its the more slept on dj mixes you know, or some out on the wing sht, my boy binger sampled a real ill track off a compilation, but no one is flowers with that, ive done it before too, i sampled jazz bizniz (which is a compilation for jazz fans)..but DF is targeted directly at hip hop producers, and should just be called 'heres some samples for you lazy a$s producers" with a disclaimer that says "want to be like your favorite producer??? want to know the secrets??? dig in the crates like madlib??? have drum breaks like primo??? now you can do alll that with my new compilation!"
i have a couple volumes for listening purposes, but i wont sample something like that , when theres 10,000 madlib dick-riders all using it for there beats..thats just me..
example - i wonder how many producers bought the dusty fingers with the sven libaek track on it, i bet theres over 100 unheard beats using that same damn loop from the same dusty fingers record...but who do you know that has the sven libaek LP,or a 45 or something?? and flipped a beat off there? the numbers alot less.
what if i made a drum break compilation displaying all the rare hard to find breaks?? that shts just dumb, cuz theres some drum breaks too that havent been used. CLOSING STATEMENTS - i dont know why people think everythings been sampled, so you can still dig for gems, and if you dont think you can you arent listening to the right sht, and just remember when your sampling a dusty fingers volume your sampling the same thing hundreds of kids are beating off to at that very moment
/pumps fist in air
and its not about being a purist but come on man...i dont want something thats made specifically for producers who need samples, dusty fingers is in the same realm as prepackaged loop CDs
..sorry for the longwinded rant
