Sample Trimming

It took a long time, but I just recognized that you can jump to
the START and END fields with the bottom Qlink ACTIVE buttons
and doing some fine trimming with the sliders.

I was always missing a feature like this. Nothing revolutionary
to the most of you, but an extremely helpful "new" feature for me.

The power of the 4000 actually lies in some well soft-engineered possibilities.
For example, if assigning samples to pads, it memorizes the last accessed
sample, so that in many cases, the sample for the new pad is just one wheel
click away.

I really begin the like this machine. By the way, does someone know whether
it's possible to have your audio inputs monitored outside the RECORD page?

That is an essential tip anytime you have long samples.

I'm pretty sure the audio ins can only be accessed when in the record page. The later MPCs got the ability to route the ins through fx and fun stuff like that. On the plus side 4k was the first MPC where you could record from the audio out stage (good for resampling or mixing down inside the box).

On the subject of sample trimming can anyone help me with a problem? - just got the 4000 having had a 2000 but its clearly a different beast altogether -
I'm having trouble with basic sample trimming. The machine seems to set points at the start and end of the sample that it won't let me trim/scroll beyond. I've tried messing around with the loop points, which is sometimes the cause, and changing settings on the region page which also sometimes seems to help, but neither of these things have solved the problem totally?
Could it be an o.s issue? Not sure which version I have?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Try either shortening the loop or turning loop off before altering the main trim points. I believe if the loop points are set and on, it will not let you trim the sample past the loop points (which makes sense). Basically you want to start by trimming the sample, then work on loop/region afterwards. I find it best to physically trim off the ends once I have it where I want it since it wont be used anyway.

Can anyone confirm, that there is a relationship between the number of samples (per sample) and the range that you can change with one fader movement (from top to bottom or vice versa) in the sample trim screen?

I'm just wondering: When you have very short samples, I can only change 8 samples (per sample) per fader movement.

Seems to be programmed very strange. At least I would expect the typical midi range from 0..127 or the common Qlink range from -100 to +100.

Summing up, this feature would be way more interesting, if the sample range was greater.
