I don`t know but here goes.
Midi basics.
Asr 10 sound module or sequencer?
4k sound module or sequencer?
Which will be your master and the other the slave?
A midi cable in great condition.
The manual on the ASR10 and 4k.
Understanding of midi outs and midi channels
Local off on the keyboard.
And a most important an audio mixer.
First connect your keyboard and your 4k to the audio mixer to listen to your sounds. Next decide which gear Asr or 4k will be the master. If want to have the 4k sequencer set it as master by connecting a midi cable to midi out A or B to your ASR midi in. You can connect the ASR 10 midi out to 4k midi in A or B if you want to use the keyboards keys to play but it is not necessary if you are only using the pads. Make sure to go to your keyboards Global page and set the midi function to local off (which will keep you from retriggering the midi notes and making a midi cycle). Next go to main page on the 4k go to the track block and down to Out1 Part and change Part to Out A (which is midi out A from earlier) check the midi window to ya right you can now record midi notes to the tracks that will be send out of Midi out A, B, C, or whichever one you have connect your midi cable too. Play and the keyboard should be set to midi in channel 1 thru 16. If your keyboard is multitimbral you can have different program set to different channels bass channel 2, drms channel 10 and etc and record them to different tracks on the 4k. Just remember to set each track on the 4k to the channel of the instrument you want to play. Hmmn there is alot more but it isn`t very difficult to do once you learn please check the newbie bible or get a basic guide on midi. It is in the users manual and read carefully and slowly about Out 1 field on pg 21 on the top section 6 for the destinations for the track.
Now my last piece of advice you have to learn what the terms mean on the 4k that is the key to understanding the manual. Most of us spend a great deal of time and effort to understand the gear, terminlogy, and science behind a Z8 sampler. If you don`t have the time or find it to timeconsuming to learn try something else. The key is to learn what you don`t understand. Midi isn`t hard and the 4k midi is the same as other midi instruments but you have to learn midi. Set out the links I sent and a download the reference manual from Akai.
If you have no time to learn we can tell you but you wont understand.
Peace out
