If the OS development is slow... make it Open Source!

I've been crying for Open Source status since it became apparent that Numark didn't give crap about fixing bugs years back.

The other end of this is that the behemoth 4000 is dead in Numark's eyes and they intend to keep it that way. An updated OS means that the flagship focus would shift backwards towards the 4000 from the official flagship 2500.

Unless someone decompiles the code without permission the idea is stillborn. Numark is not going to release the source code and breathe new life into a machine they don't build, never built and has no plans to replicate in terms of power and stature.

how hard is this os to crack reverse what programing tool is used

also cant you programmers decompile the os with free decompiler. eg

I don't know if it's that hard or not.... the truth is that we need a pro here; a real hardcore programmer.

If anybody in the GNU & Linux (talking about developers and hackers) would get interested, it would be really beneficial and we would be able to make some progress.

this os is not that hard to hack
the os was written in c/c++ language. and then compile.
decompiling shouuld only take a week

if some one could take a photo of the 4000 cpu and the flash rom chip . or tell me the numbers and letters on the cpu and flash rom
i could find out more about the coding.

Yeah.. I dont know shit about programming or reverse engineering but if the crack group h2o could make cubase work (it had encrypted code sent to the dongle!) then I suppose this OS could be reverse engineered.

You would certainly become the hero of the mpc4000 forum for sure, and possibly even make a couple $ on it...

Reverse engineering is possible, but it’s not easy to go from there. Finding a way to get code to skip past software's anti-piracy method would be simple compared to fixing scattered bugs and adding features to a ton of random code with no documentation, variable names, or anything that makes sense. Sure, you could have some fun with it and with a LOT of work, possibly do a few cool things (if you don't kill it first), but it's not going to stack up to a JJ style update (who had the source). I'd love for someone to prove that wrong, but I don't think its feasible. If I did, I would have already been working on it

stay away from mrhack. he made 2 other attempts earlier to gain interst in the jj os community to hack the 1000 and 2500 jj os.
his posts have been reported to tutor. so my advice to all of you would be NOT to support mrhack.
i know you all want an os update, but mrhack is up to no good and would probably fuk up your mpc (if he's even capable of hacking in the first place).
something tells me he's full of sh!t anyway, since there's some spambots that have started posting on the forums as well. so they will all be dealt with accordingly.

hacking jjs os is just plainly ignorant.
he's supporting the mpcs development cut off his money supplier and he won't bother, in my opinion guys like u ruin any chance of software development happening.

I have always been happy to pay for the software I use so leave JJ the hell alone.

mrhack posted on the mpc jj os forums that he can hack the password, so that nobody would have to pay for it.
after seeing those posts (they've been moved to a hidden sub-forum), i checked his posts leading to this topic, knowing that he would end up posting sume bullsh!t like this.
when a new member comes out of nowhere and only talks about hacks, it just seems rather suspect.... especially when he joined the day after the forums were hacked. so he was banned immediately.
if mrhack never attempted to hack the jj os, i'm not sure what would've happened here. but somehow i doubt he would be able to do anything worthwhile with the 4000. if i'm wrong, we'll know eventually. but my bullsh!t detector tells me otherwise.
