Yoot...1 question mate...

how are you getting your samples into the 4k.

USB (does it work), HD or cd???

cheers.

I drag n' drop samples into Ak.sys which then gets fed (via USB) into the 4k. That's only way I'm doing it coz of the already stored samples on my Mac. If I was gonna sample something then I'd use my Apogee A/D converter, get it into my Mac HD then drag n' drop into MPC to get best results.

As for CDs/CD ROMs I'd copy onto my Mac HD then drag n' drop again. You don't really need the CD ROM & MPC HD - this is why they're optional rather than standard & keeps the price down (which is great especially if you don't have use for it). I think this is the way if you have a mass storage system, otherwise that option is handy.

wicked...

can you save All sequences and samples and songs to the mac this way too then.

also, hows the 4k goin...any issues so far. so when you gonna collect your new beast then?

as soon as you go down to DV let us know...i wanna try this beast out properly at home. spoke to will today again and he said he will let me know when its freed up... but let us know anyways.

cheers. enjoy the beat making.

i mean its thier trade mark feature.

also the 16 levels thing...was it anything major?

the Pad Mixer is a must for me...as i have this on my MPC 1000 (cant live without it now) and i cannot even think why Akai left this feature out on thier Flagship.
Ya kno, the Note Repeat wasn't THAT messed up. The Pads latched only in a special combo of Note Repeat, 16 Levels if ya hit multiple pads at the same time. Not in 99% of use. Other than that, the 16 Levels worked as expected but didn't have the TUNING option.
Before 1.51, ya could use the pads for tunings and ya could tweak the drum mix but it was completely different from other MPCs. I've no idea why AKAI did that. Good thing they put it back now.
yo the note repeat was messed up when you pressed note repeat the first note would not be quantized

You can save the entire memory to the Mac. I normally create a folder & destination in Ak.sys & place it into the song (folder) that I'm working on, so everythingz kept in one place, i.e. the arr, audio & MPC samples.
Everything is fine with the 4k - so glad I investigated - I could of missed out! Still waiting for the new one from DV. I'll let U know when I get it.

I think you're gonna enjoy the pad mixer on this beast! Assigning functions to the foot pedal is really useful.

Dont get the MPC4k,, get the z4 or z8. The sequencer sucks, it cant even follow up a next sequencer (even my old atari does that properly).
I use the mpc4k with logic, and do all the sequencing in logic,,, i got lucky with a good deal for mpc,,, otherwise ild get the z4.

GET THE Z4

thats strange...i have read, been told, etc, that the 4K has the best sequencer till date.

what do you mean by 'it cant even follow up a next sequencer '?

Its kinda hard to explane,, but believe me,, sequencing on a mpc4k is very hard when youre used to logic.
Ill suggest a z4 or z8,,,

MPC4k is very cool for hiphop, but for more complex productions the mpc just wont cut it.

Like i said,, i make more musical jazz/r&b soul stuff, and i always wind up sequencing in logic because the lay out of the interface in mpc is just not cutting it.

I got a good deal a few months ago, so i gonna keep the mpc4k for life shows and the sampler,, wich is kick ass. But if i hadnt such a good deal then,, i wouldnt buy it.

Although for hiphop its the shizzle,

Although for hiphop its the shizzle,

i have logic too, been using it for over 2.5 years. now i have logic 6 on my mac, bla bla.

but when i got my mpc1000, i was making beats on the unit 5 mins after i opened the box.

same goes to the 4k, i started sequencing drum tracks in 5 mins in the store.

you see MPC's for some can be a Drum machine only, and for others like your self...hope to make full cuts on it.

it depends how you get along with hardware.

i have always used both so i have been confortable with hardware and soft.

but nothing beats an MPC for drums.

maybe Mo, you dont know how to use your mpc properly.

you seem more confused then me going by your other posts.

like you stated the Logic has no MTC. Wrong
The MPC 4000 has no Equing. Wrong
the list goes on Mo.

your confused.

There aint no eq on the MPC. The only eqing in there is on the fx busses.

4k...

whats the point in a rack sampler...you have to midi it up.

then you still wont get the Shift Timing with a 1k / z8 combo.

so yeah, a 4k is the deal.

you get a full z96 sampler with both 16 and 24 bit capability.
the MPC sequencer
The 16 pads
the big Screen
Turntable Pre Amp
Pad Mixer
etc.

Labz, I don't know what set up you have but software samplers are the way to go. Hardware samplers are dated unless your doing more live work & of course the MPCs are the other exception if your looking for great expressive drum programing & want to take advantage of the way MPC quantize grooves. Don't bother with a 1k, U need 2 seriously consider the 4k. Roops, has compared both machines like myself & realised they've left out too many typical MPC functions.

MPCs are very much associated with hip hop producers but they are used by people that makes all types of music - they're not just catering for Urban beat makers - just look at the time signature options & tempo changes etc. I think using Logic & an MPC makes a great combo!
