Try anyway ! don't you miss the modulation capabilities of the MPC, and it's 24/96, and it's 4 midi out? what about the sound ? is it better ? and the pads how do they feel ?

Yes, I miss some of the modulation capabilities there are "work arounds" or just MV ways of doing things ont he Roland.

I do not miss the 4 mido outs...The 2 midi outs and the 1 in, is plenty and I need more, I break out my $20 edirol splitter that I bought years ago.

I do not miss the 24/96 sampling rate, that's all marketing.....To the human ear we've hit the wall a while ago.

I actually didn't mind the pads when I first got the MV, althought they felt a little different so I was slightly wierded out but now when I play on an MPC, I get the same feeling and actually the aftertouch on the MV are better IMO...

As to the question "is the sound better"...That's a toughy...The MPC outs are a little hotter....Some people might call that punchier but I just mix accordingly, and set my amps accordingly and it sounds the same...

Hip Hop heads have a strange loyalty to equipment that they swear is just what it has to be and I used to be one of those but the MV for me is just a superior machine...

V3 is off the hook now...with pattern mode, now we have a drug grid (which I did miss), if they would just make the "multilevel button" just like 16 levels, which I believe they will, it would be the shiz.

Also, they just added something on V3 called Pix Jam where you can trigger photo stills with the pads as you play (goes to the VGA), I'm sure you live performers could see where this would be useful in a club while performing...You basicly hit a pad and you can have logos, pictures, graphics, whatever come out the VGA (and potentially projected onto something)...pretty cool...

Also V3 added a VA emulator as an effect...it's pretty cool but since there is only 1 MFX, you have to bounce it to an audio track after recording to free up your MFX (but that's true with all the MFX on the MV)..

The Chorus and Reverb FX are on 2 different sends...

Honestly, Roland went off with the MV...It's already transformed iteslef to a whole new system and I owned the 4000 for a couple years, waiting for it just to meet it's press release specs, which it still hasnt....No disresct put I guess I'm preaching the MV cause I love it..Im nailing out beats left and right like when I first got started.

The MV gave me some of my flame back.

Could one of you who used to own the mpc4k and now owns the MV tell me in a few words what made you switch to the MV? I guess it comes down to one or two important issues that made you change gear?

What?!?!?!?!

and im sick and tired of hearing about that damn vga board!! When Akai finnishes the akai sys its goin to blow the doors off of that shit and we'll get it with out having to pay $400 in addition. I recently got started messing with it (i finaly went out and bought a usb cable) And I Dubble clicked on a multi and this mixerboard thing came up. and each fader represented a part and on that part number it had the name of the program that was using it. Each fader also came with a meter bridge,mute/solo buttons that you could use to control the mpc with live. it had FX routing panning Ect (ill write more stuff when I get home) But its got a ton of shyt and I can Already see where its headed

I'm Ok with aksys but you also need a computer next to the mpc to use it.
The VGA out make the MV a little less computer dependant. But i'm sure a lot of MV user use a copputer because of the USB connection.

My main concern is Akai lack of reactivity. Roland made 2 majors OS revision, with a lot of news features in few months... Akai seems to have problme to deliver OS update quickly. Is it a financial problme relative to the size of the company ? maybye ... i don't know.

Sorry for my english... i hope i'm undestandable.

Well, I doubt they currently have financial problems, as Numark just purchased them.

I doubt that Akai is planning on releasing and OS everytime Roland does. I'd say that they
release OS's based off of their own internal development schedule. I think they are
not trying to make an MV 8000 killer, but more of an MPC 4000 an instrument on it's own.

Now as for VGA vs Ak.Sys.

I feel both companies missed it. They should both be putting their own Ak.Sys and also have
VGA.

Sometimes I have a computer next to me when I"m making music and sometimes I don't.

I feel that Ak.Sys could be expanded that much more. They could be using the UI
for doing things that they aren't able to do with the little LCD and cursors and a jogwheel.
But it's more of an expanded screen of the what you already get with the LCD.

Though I've also heard plenty of people on this and DPS forum, complain when somebody
would provide steps on a how to do something via Ak.Sys. The response would be, I bought
an MPC to get away from the computer, not to have to rely on it. But I feel, that I can
do what I can do on the MPC itself. If they want to add additonal features and options
via the Ak.Sys that is only available via Ak.Sys, then go ahead and do it, as you might as
well use the power that's available to you (a computer). There's plenty of things that
one could add to the whole MPC experience via Ak.Sys.

AwwNwww,

Firstly, you quoted me about the VGA board when there is nothing in this post about the VGA board but I'll retort anyway.

No disrespect, you're talking to a former MPC4000 owner and I know ALL ABOUT AKsys, and it is NOTHING, and I mean nothing like the VGA out on the MV. The MV has all the sequencer mode, the pattern mode, the mix menu, and everything change when you go into VGA mode. It's nothing like AKsys....The MV sequncer is controlled on the screen with the jog wheel much like Rolands famed Roland VS series mixiers...

I'm not hating, I'm preaching....The AKsys software is NOTHING compared to the VGA mode on the MV and it would be well worth the $400 (if thats what they charged) which it isnt by the way..Street price on it is about $280...But, on another note, it's free when you buy one...

Roland, not only honored that promotion for people that bought it before the promotion, but they also just extended it (big surprise) till March 31st so it's free.

There are things the MPC has over the MV for sure, but not on that one.

In REALTIME with the sequencer playing and try out all different types of Quantize playbacks (all non-destructive)...You can ALWAYS go back to the original, even after saving the project....Break out on that.
