Remember "Jenny on the Block" used the same loop as Beatnuts?
Trashmasters just yanked that loop and re-used it.
Basically, I have some songs that use loops (2-4 bars, no "chopped snares" - these are not disquised real identifiable loops) They are from relatively rare records but a real head may pick them out. This ain't a Con-ye job like ripping off the whole song of Testify, but like old psychedelic loops that are so dope I don't want to even clutter them.
If I independently release a CD with these loops, I could see a major producer finding the records I used and sample them in the same way.
Is there a way to protect this, or does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this as producers? At the moment, I don't even want to credit the sample origin because of the ability for another producer to steal. If it would get distributed then I would clear the samples.
I have read the copyright threads, sample source clearance, etc. but this is a little different.
Thanks as always a good forum.
For the record, I'm still bangin with a fully maxed 2000xl for life, you dig.
