Hey samuraisam, I sometimes do the same thing but have only done it with the one program. Though I do use mulitple programs I only track the midi data for my drums in cubase.

I get what you are asking but unfortunatley I have never tried with mult programs.

What samuraisam is doing is recording all his midi data into cubase to then nudge it around and perfect it in cubase and then to have cubase retrigger all the samples from the MPC. So for example say all the drums are Drum1 on track1, other sounds are DRum2 on track3 and keys Drum3 on track 3. Midi track one in cubase is meant to trigger drum1, midi track2 is meant to trigger drum2 and midi track3 is meant to trigger drum3 in the MPC. But all tracks when cubase is run as the sequencer will trigger whatever Drum/Program is currently chosen.

So you wanna know if you can assign different programs to different midi channels so that programs other than the one currently selected can be triggered from an external sequencer?

EXACTLY! FINALLY! SOMEONE! WITH! AN! IQ! ABOVE! ROOM! TEMPERATURE!

lol.

yeah, i like it like that because there are no sync issues if you could do it that way.

the simple answer to your question is "no" which numerous people have tried to point out to you and your poorly constructed questions.

you can however work around this "limitation" with some creative use of programs and pad note assignment. hint: you can assign exactly one half of the midi note range in one program. you may even be able to get the entire midi note range times two if you're creative with velocity settings. assuming your iq is above room temperature i think you should be able to figure that all out. ;-)

I am sorry that I couldn't speak monkey

I already told you that the MPC cannot be used the way you are trying to use it and was then trying to help you with a work around.

You are the one with the problem..so open up the Cubase, Reason, and MPC manuals and come up with your own solution. :P

i already work around the issue on my 1k.
but i wanted to know if the 2500 can do it, which it can't and i realise you told me, but no one understood what i was trying to do anyway.

well then the same work around will work on the 2500: it's pretty similar to the 1000.

i suppose i've never really thought of doing what you're doing but i can see how it could be useful. in my experience the mpc works the best if it's the center of the studio but doesn't really integreate well with the computer. that of course is my opinion based on how i work.

he wasn't trying to do anything that complicated, its a valid question and yes it is a notable limitation of the mpc series that should be made clear to potential buyers.

if i was reading this site at this point id be thinking "mpc users dont know too much about hooking up midi, and maybe the machine isnt really that advanced"

Okay pls dont take that too seriously, just my opinion

i'm not quite sure what makes you think people don't know much about midi. i think what the posting user was asking about is something that nodboy (or not many) people in this forum have really thought about. in the end, once the question was cleared he got the response he needed. in addition, the answer to the question was "no" which i think jahrome mentioned almost immediately. however, people went out of their way to a) make sure they understood and b) provide some sort of a work around should the user want one. if you could understand what the user was asking up front then cool but most of us were a bit lost on what in the hell he was attempting. being able to write good questions is important to get good answers.

don't take the too seriously, though. that's just my opinion.

He`s right just need to study midi ports and channels to parts or programs. 1000 and 2500 I believe can play maybe up to 4 programs at a time if I remember right however for 4K it is no problem as I can route the midi input directly to the sampler.

I recommend to go to

http://courseptr.com/ptr_detail.cfm?gro ... %2D084%2D9

it will be your best help besides the manual.

Good luck.

i wouldnt know, i dont have one!

the mpc 1000 doesnt do it, and i say that if the 2500 does it, it has a major advantage over the 1000

your sig...thats that movie about those dudes in New Zealand right???

The MPC 2500 is not multi-timbral in the same sense as..lets say my Motif ES. My Motif ES can be set in the Performance mode where you can assign a different patch (sound) to each of its 16 MIDI channels. A sequencer like Cubase (or your MPC) can trigger all these patches (sounds) at the sane time.

The Akai MPC 2500 does not do this. You can have a maximum of 24 programs in the MPCs memory. You can even assign each of these programs to a different track within a sequence (beating the 4 program limit of the 2000XL). However, there is no way to assign these individual programs to their own MIDI channel to be used by an external sequencer. External sequencers can only trigger the program assigned to the active MPC track.

The MPC 4000 is the only MPC that can be used as a multi-timbral synth in the sense.

No need to blatantly disrespect everyone for not using thier equipment as you do........DON'T BE A DYCK...........Just be happy there was someone here who understands what you are trying to accomplish.....Not everyone works in the same vein as you.......

Probably because MOST MPCS don't necessitate the use of computers........perhaps???

I don't think it's a question of whether people understand midi or not, rather , is a computer really necessary when using an MPC????

My preference......not really....

Considering that most MPCs are not a multitimbral synths....I figured that would be self explanetory......
