Okay, here's the issue.

Today I was choppin up samples and as usual I save them to the ROOT on my internal HDD. However, about midway into saving some files, it started telling me that the samples I was trying to save were already on the HDD. So I stopped and went through my ROOT via LOAD to make sure they weren't duplicates. Turns out they were NOT dups and I tried renaming the file to see if that would work, but it kept doing the same thing every time.

So I decided to copy my samples, that did save, onto my external for back up - which worked fine. Now this is the kicker, when I check out whats on my 2500 via USB through my laptop it actually shows those files as being on my internal HDD - but when I disconnect the 2500 from the laptop - the 2500 will not show those same files as being anywhere on the internal HDD. So I can't pull them up to even mess with them at all - its like they aren't there, but they are .. . .

I was also able to keep selecting the REPLACE option and all of them did save - but they still don't show up through the LOAD option.

Anyways, I am using the original Akai OS and not the JJ if this makes any difference. Also After rebooting the 2500 I was able to create another folder off of the ROOT and save a sample just fine, but I tried to save it first on the ROOT alone and that didn't work (gave me the same error message).

So, If anyone could help that would be AWESOME!!! - this is messin up my flow and I want it to go back to the way it was before this issue started :(

hello,

chances are you stumbeled over an old error that akai never really fixed in the os upgrades: if you are overwriting or replacing data on the harddrive it might get corrupted!
the only way to avoid this is to NEVER overwrite anything - just make a new folder and save there!
and remember that the names should be short, best to keep it under sixteen characters.
if your hdd gets full then just delete old folders or copy them to another place.

seems like akai messed up something when they implemented the fat partition scheme into the os, because it behaves differently if you format the hdd from the akai os or if you format from windows (this is the reason akai recommends to only format from within the mpc and format again if you upgraded the os to a newer version).

the sad part is that regardless of any promises akai did not release any new os updates for the mpc2500 after version 1.24 - so all the 1000 and 5000 users got more os updates AND more functions added, but we 2500 users are left in the rain or we go to the alternative os. maybe we should send akai more complaints and demand at least one more bugfix update to the os - if they threw in some new features like global program edit i would not mind, but please fix those old bugs!

peace, rez

Or just install JJ Free, it essentially is 1.24 with GPE, and I doubt you'll have the HD issue unless your HD is actually corrupted. the OS is not written to the HD, none of your files will change. You can flash it back to Akai OS anytime you want if for whatever you projects don't load right.

I see zero reason on Earth why to use 1.24 with a free solution to it's isssues sitting right there.

Akai will never in a million years update the 500/1000/2500/5000 even if you pooled money on a kickstarter campaign.

Okay, thanks for the reply - both of you!

But quick question for Metatron72, I thought I could not save anything if I had downloaded the JJ Free? I was under the impression that I have to purchase the full version to be able to have the save feature. That is the reason I stuck with the original OS for now.

Thanks again for your replies!

Hi,

You can save with the free JJOS version. Now if you decide to install the paid version which is free to download and use, then you need to purchase a password in order to unlock the save function.

WOW, thanks RootsRenegade, thats great to know!

Thats the only reason I stayed with the original OS. Im glad I can now at least get the free with no worries.

One more concern of mine is - all the current samples on my internal HDD. Will I need to format my HDD and will it be possible to reload my formated HDD with those samples from my external via my laptop or will downloading the JJ still work with all my current samples on the HDD out the gate?

Like Metatron72 said, the OS is not written to the HD, so none of your files will change and you can flash it back to Akai OS anytime you want if for whatever you projects don't load right. But i doubt you will come back to Akai OS since JJ offers a much more powerful operating system.

And just to make sure everything is safe during the process, i would backup the HDD files onto my computer before switching OS.

Thanks for the advice - I already saved all my files so there should be no problem there. I doubt too that I will want to switch - I could tell the Akai OS was getting buggy. I'll try the JJ tomorrow.

Thanks again
Peace.

@RootsRenegade - hey I was having an issue with the JJ OS - if you could help?

I did download the JJ and started to move all my samples back over to my internal hdd, but it was doing two things strange. 1 - it was showing some samples as not being there on the hdd after I had clearly moved them (even went back to double check)
.
& 2 - Im still having the issue with saving a sample to the internal hdd. I did format the hdd twice after installing the JJ OS and still the same issue.

If you could help that would be cool -

Peace!

Hard to tell from here... It should be working.

I am not sure what could cause the issue so i'll just be using the process of elimination.

Corrupted/physically damaged HDD ? Are you able to see if some files or folders are saved on it ?

During the FORMAT operation, did you make sure to select HARD DISK instead of MEMORY CARD before pressing WINDOW and FORMAT ?

Did you format within the MPC ? It is recommended to do so and not from the computer.

During the USB mounting process, on the MPC, it says : "For Mac OS, please eject the mounted disk on your Mac, before you leave this page". I never used a MAC so i can't tell what issue it could cause. Maybe you loose your files if you don't follow this step, i don't know.

Did you try to reboot the MPC and then retry a file transfer ?

Did you try the search function of this site ? Chances are high that a similar issue has already been posted by another user.

Really, it should work with no problem... I don't know what else could cause the issue.

Did you install JJOS from the CF card ? The first installation of JJOS must be made from the CF card.

Take the time to read ALL of this thread, lots of valuable infos :

http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=79195

Q: How Do I install any of the JJ-OSs?
A:There are 2 ways of doing it:

A) You're switching over from an AKAI OS to any JJ-OS or
B) You're Updating from previous JJ-OS builds.

In Case A, the OS has got to be installed from the CF Card, because the AKAI OS cannot open .bin and .os2 files! Put the CF card with the OS file in the MPC. Turn it off. Next, hold down the [WINDOW] button and switch the unit back on... follow the instructions on screen to install the new OS. After JJ-OS is installed, you can open .bin or .os2 files from the Load Browser. The CF Card is not needed for later updating.

In Case B, just put the OS-File on the HD or CF Card and execute it from the Load screen. After the installation is done, Restart your MPC and you're good to go.

Here is the step by step free JJOS (Ver3.10) installation manual (make sure you followed these steps):

http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/mpc2500/update310.htm

And here is the full online manual (check the Save & Load section for your saving issue):

http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/mpc2500/manual308.htm

JJOS is stable and really worth it. You should be able to work it out, no problem.

Let us know if you have more questions, we will try to help you out. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for all your assistance.

I might have installed the JJ wrong then. I knew it was supposed to install to a CF card but I dont think it did. I think It installed directly to the internal hdd, the PC never gave the option to mount the CF card  :WTF:

so now what should I do? do I have to delete everything and start over? is it even possible? and why did I not get an option to download the JJ file to the CF card, it just went directly to the internal hdd? :hmmm:

I did try looking through the forums last night (i was up really late) and found nothing that was my particular issues or situations.

Like I said thank you so much for any and all your help on this!

**EDIT** I fixed it. It was the fact that it loaded from the hdd and not the CF card. I still have to load the hdd with all my old samples however, so hopefully that will work the way its suppose to, but so far so good.

I did test out the sampling/saving and the initial error message is now a thing of the past!! :-D - now I can get back to business!

Thank you all again for your assistance - it is greatly appreciated!!
