Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

i was trying to sequence a bass line to a song and the mpc is not recording notes from A#0 and below. i thought there may be some kind of cut-off range on the high end, too and checked the upper registers. i found that it is also not recording notes D#6 and above.

is there a setting in the MPC that can widen the range, or is this something else?

thanks,

Jay

Are you on the latest OS?

This was a common problem on 1.0 but was fixed.

Still seems some peopl have been suffering it though.

What sort of controller are you using?

If people are having this pproblem, then that would mean it isn't fixed? No?

It doesn't/shouldn't matter which controller you are using.

OK, let's not get hung up on technicalities. it was 'supposedly' fixed in 1.2 as stated in the addendum

3. Fixed bug where the unit could not record midi notes beyond notes assigned to pads.

But as i said some people are still having the problem.

Maybe it doesn't/shouldn't matter what controller is used but as some people aren't having this problem, surely it's a good idea to try and narrow it down. no?

maybe it is only on the mpc2500, but on the 1k and the 2000xl there is only 64 midi note range :

start at 35(B0) to 98(D6) wich made 64 distinct midi note assignable to 64 pads (4 banks of 16 pads)

i was wondering myself for a long time, how could i use a wider range, since i have some samplers hooked up by midi, and their midi range is much much wider.

so actually the only things i have found, is to trigger the root key of your sound in your midi sound module, then use the internal pitch of the module to find the value you wanted. Or i play with the sound module, finding the right pitch, then resampled it to be trigger from the mpc directly (exporting the sound pitched to the mpc, in few words...).

probably the 4k doesnt have this problem since the midi engine used by the machine is the Z4/Z8, but i never had enought time on a 4k to test this.

maybe some pro users got any tips ?

another probleme i have, but i am probably not in the right section. there is some midi notes on samplers between 35 - 98 that i cant/ never get access. i will provide an exemple later, when i am back to home.
the samplers display that the midi note is simply note reconised. so i use to workaround the problem, but it will improve my workflow if some ppl got ideas :)

thx in advance

There's only 64 note range within the MPC itself, ie corresponding to the pads.

But when hooked up to a midi keyboard it should record all notes form a full 88 note range.

The 1k never had a problem recording any midi notes cause i had one and used it for a year and a half. I was the one that originally discovered the problem on the 2500 and posted it here. I noticed it when trying to add bass notes on to an old song i saved from my 1k.

I can't speak for the 2kXL cause i never owned one.

But if it still a problem on the 2500 i wouldn't know cause i no longer use my fantom-s. I stick to my nord lead 2x and i program all my basses to play an octave lower from midi note C4.

As I have stated before..this is a problem and it suks big time. A MIDI sequencer that can't record and playback MIDI notes correctly......

With every OS release, Akai has fixed something only to break something else. MIDI has been a problem with every OS release.

i agree the mpc can record midi note outside the limited default range, i was just wondering if there was a way to step edit them directly from the mpc. i was talking about playback midi note in fact.

ie: i would like to assign pad 1 bank A to the midi note 30 directly from the mpc. i didnt find how to, always limited to the default midi scale of the mpc

so the actual way is the hook up a keyboard as midi master into the mpc, then record the right midi note into the sequencer. then play it back to the concerned sound module.

i have a keyboard, but my friend doesnt, that why we where asking this question. so he use the technique i explained before.

sorry for my bad english, hopes i am more clear.

I finally moved from OS 1.2 to 1.21.

What I still find is that if I set it to a 4 bar loop and play/record, it appears that the MPC skips a few recorded notes (mostly at the end of the sequence) once the sequence loops around going into overdub. But if I stop it after the 4 bar loop and press play, the notes were actually recorded.

Also, I still experience certain sounds from a MIDI module sustaining when they shouldn't.

Also, using Play start, there is a slight pause/delay within the first bar of a recorded sequence. However, if you just press play, there is no obvious pause/delay.
