Hi!

I have the possibility to trade my MPC 2500 (jjOSXL) for a MPC 3000 LE with maxed memory (plus pay about 250 $)
The MPC 3000 is in very good condition, screen's bright.

I know that I have to make the final decision, but before I choose anything I'd like to hear what you guys think bout that trade?
What features make the MPC 3000 legendary? Some say that the sound and "swing" are different, is that true? What's the difference between an MPC 3000 LE and a clasic MPC 3000?

I use the MPC as my main hardware station, I also have a S950, and a Mo'Phatt (mix and master on Pro Tools).

The thing that I hate in the MPC 2500 are the crappy materials used to build it, and stiff pads. The thing I like is wavefrom edit + grid edit (but I can live without those)

And as it goes bout music, I'm all about the '90s hip-hop vibes....

Thanks for your help!

peace

To be really honest, if you are asking these questions, keep your 2500. First of all keep in mind you will go back 15 years in time or so. It may sound like the ultimate Dilla machine but there is so much more to it then only having a 3k. I say read more up about it, your questions are pretty general.

Why does he want to trade? ??? That would be my first alarmbell going off.

omg. do not do it.

my theory is the only way to freak a 3k as proper as dilla did is to work your a$$ off for years and years and years and years and years. and i dunno if you got that kinda time. i know i don't and thats why i can freak a newer mpc proper.

Its really comes down to what you want.

The MPC 3000LE and the Regular MPC 3000 are basically the same except the LE has black pads and different faceplate. other than that, they are the same.

You could upgrade the 3000 w/ the Vailixi 3.50 OS.
Heard its amazing.

You could opt for an S3000 instead and keep the 2500 and use those both.

There is no wave form to see when chopping, from what i hear its all from ear.

Do you want more sampling time (2500) or Less sampling time (3000)?

Do you want new technology or older technology?

Do you want that newer sound or that warmer sound?

Its all up to you.

if you can try out the 3000 before you buy, i recommend you do.

To see if its what you want.

i'm not trying to be the next dilla (it's impossible) or even copy his style, i just want to work on my own style.

just wondering if that "warm" sound and unique "swing" is really there, or is it just the people saying there is something like that...

i never had a chance to try the mpc 3000 so i'm askin' those guys who have them for some advice!

First of all you really need to take in to account that all those handy things you got used to with ur 2500 are gone. No 80gig HD instead ur probally gonna work with unrelaible zipdisks. Chopping wont be ur biggest worry, but no grid edit. there is a similair thing with step edit but it is not the same, it will take you some time to get used to that. On the other hand, how good do you know the dude that is willing to trade his 3k for the 2500? I would never do it unless the guy trading was one of my good friends. Can he guarantee the unit is flawless? No fuked up pads, failing memory etc?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... TQ:GB:1123

it's this unit i'm talking bout.

i can live without the HD, it's not a big deal. i can backup those zip disks on my pc.

i know it's a funny thing to say, but i hope to be more creative with the 3000.
chop the samples by ear not by "eye".

and what really makes me mad is the 2500's quality. the jog wheel is crappy as hell, the buttons often go crazy and when pressed once act like they would be press 2 or 3 times... so really every single day i got the stupid feeling that if i press something too hard the mpc will fall apart...
and i heard that the 3000 is built like a "tank"

DRUM MACHINES HAVE NO SOUL. remember this.

Do it . He only wants to deal locally , so you can test it . The way I see it , you have nothing to loose . You could easily make that trade yourself if you change your mind later . There are way more 2500 's around than 3000 LE 's . I dont use a 3000 but I use an SP1200 so I can tell you , there are no disadvantages with chopping by ear . All that visual sh!t is a gimmick for real .

don't do it.

if you're convinced the swing is magical on the 3000, consider getting a 60 or an asq 10 and midi your 2500 to it for time.

keep the 25k, save up cash and then cop a 3000... 8) but wait then again... you can always chop on computer, if you wanna chop visually along with the 3k... ok, i change my mind, if the 3k is in really good condition and no problems at all then do it....this is a tough one.. 8)

I haven't tried the 2500 and about to try the 3000 soon but if your trying to get a distinctive unique sound then go for it. Yeah editing can be **** but if you train your ear to edit a sound and also do a little pre-eqing, that can make you stand out and get the sounds you want. Heard good and bad about the 2500 and 3000 so I'm not gonna go beyond that since I haven't mess with it.

Also another thing is research on the OS system on the 3000. Heard the OS 3.50 is good and can do wonders especially chopping, sequencing and editing..I think ramble enough but let you decide and feel what's best for you.
