recently got to paly around twith the mv8000(took me a while with playing)...

and all i can say is WOW, what a **** amazing machine. definately beats the shit out of ANY mpc i've useD(never used the 4000 but used every single other mpc, forat, sp1200, studio440)

**** amazing. I haven't fully gotten itno it, but i love this machine...

The timing I have to get to grips with, i'm not sure but its sounding off, its something to do with the quantize obviously, I'll work that out though.... I just need the manual(which ish idden in my boxes from moving), anyone have any tips b4 i get into that?

but some of the triggering patterns(is there a mute track page too?) is amazing. I wish u could do 2 patterns at once(unless i'm mistaken?). the itnerface is extremely smooth.

i haven't blasted it out of my monitors yet (my studio's still in a mess, just using headphones)...so i dont know how much it bumps, but it sounds warm.

I prefer it to any of hte modern MPCs i've used for sample quality. (not used the 4000 mind you), just al ot warmer of a sound. I think i find the samples i've been making 100x fold more useful than lets say samples i made from the mpc1000, adn this is without proccessing.

the sample editing is extremely fluid and quick. everyhting's just really quick the load/save times being slow? wtf, ? u born in 1990? how mayn **** drum machines load/save for ever?!?!? sp1200 anybody??mpc60 quickeR?

one thing, with the screen, sometimes there is motion blur(i have vga, but i havent set up my desk, so no vga yet), which can be hard to read.

it's defiantely different than the mpc line. but i'm finding the new additions really really great. The chop is great, it chops so quick. I can take one of my favorite tracks, get the kick drum real quick out of it change things up, its wonderful.

i haven't encountered the proccessor lag for htting drums, only on guitar center's model...

one thing i really love is how smoothly the mv8000 links up with my tech 12, grounding and everything. i make mad samples. and its not like many of the new drtum machines which seem to want you to use your comptuer for editing, i really thinkg i can do absolutely everything, and do it high quality, with this.

i must say though sometimes the sliders dont get recognized...does it have to go to the setting first?

but anyway...def. happy i made this move. i couldn't imagine the mpc4000 really ocmparing...especially for the $700 more it would of cost me...i still might upgrade to the mv8800, just because i love the machine so much, and it'll get tons of use that screen might be worth the $:-)

My friend, congrads on your new purchase of the mv. I def have respect for the roland product line. Well, if you wanna know why, it's because I own roland products too. But working with just that VGA feature versus working with whatever OS you're working with, is miles apart. A lot of katz don't know or understand this feature with the 4k. With your computer, you can load anything onto the 4k without even touching it. Do your editing off of the computer then send it back to the 4k. Save a copy of the 4k HD's contents all on your computer. Enough said, Ak.sys makes all of this happen & more (including working with 24bit high resolution files).

Alright guys, which would you rather have...a machine that connects to just a vga or one that connects to and takes advantage of the hosts' audio/media programs? Obviously it's a no brainer. :D BUTknowing what roland products can do, I would'nt mind taking a peek at it one day soon.

one thing if yuo're workign with a comptuer and are comfortable, u dont need an mpc, mpd would do it fine.

I like using hardware exclusively.

i dont know bout ayone else, but I sit behing computers all day at work, last thing i want to do at home when off work is work on a computer. -

Just to let you know....this can also be done with the MV! What's the deal about having a VGA that makes people feel like they're working with a computer? All of these devices are computer related MV & MPC's!! The VGA just gives you a bigger viewing area to see what you're doing! Now that's a NO-BRAINER!! Ever tried fine-tuning a soundwave!!! The bigger the screen..the more that's seen!

The very people that consider the MV more of a computer than hardware....are always saying how they can use a computer with the MPC-whatever model. Or maybe Ak.sys works without the aid of a computer, does it????? So basically those points made are str8 hypocrisy!

People say the MV has too much.....they don't want an "all in one box"! It's better to have features and not need them...than to need them and not have them! I have dual airbags in my car.....I don't use them on a daily basis, but I'm damn glad they came with the package in case one day I should need them! Get my point!

About the 24bit argument...truth be told! I bet 5 out of 1000 people don't end up with 24bit material after all the processing is done and they mix-down or master a CD! Even if they start with 24bit samples! By the way...are music CD's that you buy from established artists in stores 24bit???

Hmmmmmmm?

But have you ever owned & used a 4k before? If you have'nt used it with ak.sys and whatever audio editor and/or your favorite DAW program, then I'd say you're truly missing something. It can't compare to what the other mpc's do. It's really misunderstood by people. But that's cool though, everything ain't for everybody. Yea, it's just the opposite for me on the computer thing. I need that veryfine & precised editing that hardware can't give me. 480-ppqn ain't gonna cut it for me either, I need 960. 16 bit only enviroment is another factor that just ain't gonna cut it, I plan to work with highend audio for video, dvd authoring & whatever else that requires 24 bit or better.

Oh I forgot to add that the VGA speeds up the workflow.....with many speed features! Click Click.......and it's done!!!

First, let me say...what's up man? I ain't had a war of words with you in a minute now. But anyway, it's cool if that's your sole intention is to just sell cd's. Like I stated before, it's all about the headroom & dynamic range you get whenever you go higher in the bit depth. Everybody's capturing their tracks in high bit (which means detailness & punch), but master it down to 16, it's been that way for a minute now. 16 bit is the new 8 bit and 24 bit is the new 16 bit.

Dabmeister,

I have NO beef with you or anyone here for that matter! I like having these conversations, because I don't know everything and I actually learn a lot from others on public forums!

Some folks read these threads and don't know how to separate facts from opinions. I spit opinions too, but when I read some of the B.S opinions that are passed off as facts....I usaully jump in!

What you said about the 24bit arena is fact....no doubt! What kills me is guys that ask for dirty gritty drums (8bit in most cases) and guys that over-process, over tweak using plugins....guys that download samples from every source known to man.....guys that sample from turntables or CD's and don't really have 24bit material......then wave the proud "I have 24bit capabilities flag"....it bothers me!

With that said...the MV is a beast! Can't wait to see what will drop for Winter Namm Jan. 17-20 2008

14k, I was only joking with that "war of words" thing bru. I ain't got no problems with you. And you know I hold the utmost respect for roland products, 'cause I own a couple of pieces myself. It's nothing wrong with the MV. It's just a different machine capable of accomplishing the same goal as any other product out there (which the same can be said about Akai products too). Yes, we may know more about our gear than the next kat, and yea it's good to spar with a little feature boasting/knowledge every now and then too. But I'll agree with you that this does however help clear up a lot of misconceptions about these two machines.

24 bit is just more headroom for tracking, improved s/n and more defined processing with plug-ins.
Most people are using lowend plugs or free VST's they can't even begin to understand what quality plugs do at higher bit rates or sample rates.
Same is true about Dither, we have had quality Dither for at least 3 years so just because you are Dithering down to 16-bit for a CD does not mean a loss in quality.
Most of the Digital nonsense repeated on the internet is old, even the stuff Bob Katz wrote in his book.
If you do some research you will find his has ammended much of what he stated then due to new formats.
i know that people use what's available or what they can afford, but you can't make it come off like that's the only reality.
Also if the 4k didn't do 24-bit the ADAT outs wouldn't be worthless for locking to your 24 bit DAW session.

Sovereign,
You make perfect sence in what you're saying, but when guys are not using 24bit material.....what's the point! It's like having a plasma or HD television with vivid color, and all you have is black & white movies! You're not getting the full benefit when your material is not in the right format!!!

This is where people sare flawed in their thinking.
Regardless of the source 24 bit is going to capture it truer to is actual sound, with capture being the key word.
Then when you process it with better plugs and digital devices it will retain more of what you captured.
It's not about what the source was since any file it creates will be a 24 bit file but will now have the added benefits.
If you sampled your Rhodes at 16 and at 24 then compare the two with all other aspects of the sampling being the same you will hear a difference.
You willl also notice that when you process them you get smoother results from the 24.
Where I really see your point being true is when people download sounds, samples or MP3's and import them into a DAW or MV/MPC which is yeilding no benefit at all.
The thing to also remember is that there are cheap devices as well as plug ins that claim to handle or work at 24 bit or 96k that either back slide on their algo's or use cheaper circuit designs so they aren't even capable of effectively making use of the numbers.
And I watch a lot of old B&W remastered DVD's on my Plasma
Still looks better than any of our LCDs.
