Now I just need help deciding between MV-8800 or MV-8000. I was planning on getting the 8800 but then I heard that the 8800 has all the same features as the 8000. The only difference is that the 8800 comes with VGA standard and has color screen. 8000 or 8800? After I sell my 2500 I'll probably still have enough to buy the 8800 and max it out and still have left over cash to spare.

Here's something to think about...

You're right they're basically the same machine. Another major difference is the 8000 comes with floppy drive plus the CD R/W drive. That's not a big deal unless you have many archive disc that were saved from older MPC's or other standard midi files.

The 8800 will have more factory sounds loaded along with having the color screen! There's a few other changes that were made to speed up the workflow, but nothing too major. The 8800 will also be supported with future updates. There's no bugs with the current OS, but Roland will often throw in new features with future updates to sweeten the deal and make user's happy.

If you can find an 8000 in good condition with the VGA included....you'll save major cash!!! The color screen on the 8800 is not a big deal because with the VGA you will have a large monitor screen which has the same colors as the 8800's onboard screen. You can also change the color scheme using the VGA. Other than that....both machines are the same. Again, there are no known problems or bugs with either OS data!

Below is a link that all MPC user's who are thinking about trying the MV should check out! It explains what to look for coming from an MPC setup. Most of the functions still exist, but just have different names! These pages will clear up lot's of confusion.

^^^ THanks for the reply. I've trying to find input on the differences between the 8800 and 8000. I was pretty much sold on the 8800 when I was trying it out at GC. So I'm still wanting an 8800. Plus the replies I usually get when asking which to get usually allude to the same thing: Roland will continue to support OS updates for the 8800. But I wonder if they will also add any new features the 8800 might receive on the 8000? So I'm wondering if both machines share the same CPU? I'm no expert but I would imagine that if they do and the 8800 is just the same thing but with a prettier box then Roland would apply the same updates on the 8000 as they develop for the 8800.

I'm still eyeing the 8800. I tried registering on MV Nation but have not received an activation e-mail yet and it has been 4 days since I registered... Weird

The OS in the 8000 & 8800 are not the same from what I'm told. Roland gave away some patch updates away a month or so ago and they wouldn't work in the 8000. These were basically presets, because the MV's have bass synth modeling under the hood too. Anyway, they wouldn't work in the 8000.

1 other thing to consider is that the 8800 has the analog bass module. The patches that 14k alluded to are used with it. You can also use this on the external in.

You're right, I didn't go into the Bass module too much. Basically the MV has a built in Bass Module.. it uses analog modeled waveforms within a synth structure to create its sound.

so the 8000 does not have the bass module? Ok, cause I was planning on selling my Korg MS200BR anyway to help pay for an 8800, plus I've only used it like twice since buying it 3 months ago.

Dammit somone buy my 2500. I wanna get my hands on an 8800 already!!!

guys, please keep in mind that if it is true that the 4k OS still has flaws, the 4k is anyway a perfect machine to work with and those bugs are highly overrated.
i own mine since less than an year, did a lot of stuff with it. never had real life problems, most of the problems talked about are plain masterbation.
it IS a killa machine and i'll never swap it for an mv, even if i recognize the mv too is a really dope box. just wanted to point out to people considerin which one to buy to not be too afraid about those over-talked bugs.
plus you can have good deals with a 2nd hand these days. got mine for 1000 euros with 256 mb, 80gb hd and cd-rw.

Yes, the 8000 has the bass modeling too, it's just that Roland gave away FREE bass patches about a month ago and 8000 users were told the patches wouldn't work in the 8000. Something about the OS not being the same!

The bass patches on the 8000 aren't exportable for sharing but the engine itself is the same.

They have a decent chart on MV Nation that lays out the difference between the the 8000 and 8800 without repeating old features. I checked this out today. If Roland had done this at launch it would have cleared up a bunch of rumors early on.
