Is the MPC right for this songwriting composer? 5/4 time?

Looking for a machine with relatively simple interface to build beats with. Will be playing along in real time with guitar as I write. I want to be able to easily lay down a good 4/4 beat for a few measures, and then a 5/4 beat and string them together/ alternate them/ repeat/ start over a million times etc....

If I only worked in 4/4 I know it would be easier to make a choice, but I need a machine that can do different time sigs. relatively simply.

I have a full computerized studio but I'm sick of having to 'f around with tons of software and programs and making them talk to each other :evil:

and want to simplify the beatmaking/ songwriting process. :mrgreen:

I'm fine with a bit of a learning curve, but it was getting to be too much manual reading, too little making music.

Was looking at the DR880/ The elektron machinedrum etc....

Is the MPC the right tool for this job? If so, which one do you recommend?

Im prety shure the most drum machines/samplers work in most of the common time signatures..
If you only need the machine for Drums and simple programming i would advice you a something like the MPC500.

You would need to compose your signature changes as separate sequences then piece them within song mode. fairly easy to do.

time sigs that the mpc's can handle are in the manuals of each machine, look through the manual and see if what you need for a certain time signature is there. Don't just guess, know about it, then get that machine. Also while your in the manual look around in it some more for other features and options that you might need. Don't just spend money and not know. You want what you want for the money you have ya know. Research doesn't hurt.
