I was checking the features on the JJOS and you know, the MV is not that far apart from the JJOS. Forget the cosmetics and screen advantages, the functionality and workflow is what I'm looking at and from what I see, if you can't afford an MV, then a MPC1000 on JJOS will do just fine.

well.. I dont know. Okay I suspect at first you will because the workflow is different (it has 16 pads, but it's a different beast) but later on once you learn the ins and outs... you will be alright.

I use the MV for plenty of stuff... the hardest part at first for me was trying to figure out how the quantize system works because I thought the way the MPC series (and other gear too) works, that was it... so at first I thought the mv was terrible for the quantization but really I wasn't adjusting the various parameters correctly. once you figure out your setting style you are alright though. Not only that, but you can make adjustments on piano roll.

I still like the mpc series though, I love just switching it on and there being not much more then the basic stuff I need... it makes ideas come out differently.

Well, like Debauch said its a totally different beast. What's a push of a button on the MPC could be a two step process on the MV. There will be a learning curve if you just came off the MPC boat. Most likely production will be on hold as you learn it, so keep that in mind before you give up the 2500.

But if its maxxed out with JJOS, I think the only thing you'll miss out on is the cd/dvd harddrive, colored screen and ability to add vsts and other effects. But the features like Chop and editing are alike.

yeah the MV doesn't use VST format pluggins, however there are instrument patches (think of how kontakt has instrument patches but in the mv they are 16 bit)

one neat thing you can do is, there is a way of midi-ing the mv up to your favourite keyboard or sound module and it will record each key to turn it into a patch. (by the way patch = program) .. I never did that but I saw a video on youtube with a guy doing that with his 8000.

well it is a slick machine, just dont go into it expecting a beefed up mpc because the system is different. As a fan of MPCs, and a fan of the MV... I dont even compare the two. Some projects I make on lets say the 60 and record those into the mv (hard disk recording stereo in) and I use the mastering suite in the mv to finish the job.... it is honestly not bad, and a lot of fun.

MV feature list looks impressive
but also strikes me as the way things could've gone if DAW-style production ended up in a more hardware oriented direction.
my speculative opinion is that one would be better served these days using the 1k alongside a DAW as FX host/mix tool rather than trying to do (most) everything in the box with the MV.
but yall know i'm biased because i just described exactly what works for me hah

Roland operating systems aren't the most fluid in my experience. I still have to dig the manual out for my Roland digital mixer from time to time and I've had the damn thing for 12 years!

Oh, they build shit to last though.

I see your point, but for me the more I can do without a daw or click a mouse the better, cause it distracts me and then i end up doing other things on the computer, (like logging on the forums)

well nym has a point... except you could do the same with the mv and a daw... the mv has quadruple the ram of the 1000, I am not sure, but my guess is the mv's fx burn the 1000's fx... and that's before it leaves the box to the daw/fx host.

here is the main problem with the mv: the 6 output/digi input expansion card is impossible to find... and when you do... it costs more then the machine. okay you still have digital output and stereo outs stock on the machine and with that I think you may be able to do 4 outs but dont quote me on that.
