have the faulty pads on the blue version gotten any better with the black version? what are the other differences. i have only used the black but am thinking about buying a used blue.

we are fairly sure there is some difference in the newer model pads of the mpc1000 - but as far as i know, it's only more thick silicone gluing of the pressure transducing rubber to the contact of the sensor. unfortunately, while this will hold them for a longer period, it will NOT be forever - carbon impregnated rubber sloughs, which means the spot where the silicone glue holds it in place will shed a layer and the PTR will slide off again.

buy a used blue and haggle them based on bad pads, you'd save more money that way. bonus points/more money off for a finnicky rotary encoder, bad tact switches, etc. "shoot the moon" if you can find a replacement for the CF card, since those are still on backorder even at vst.

antonym, did u do anything special to your pads on the 1k? like replace them with other pads that would not break down or sumthing>?

i replaced the sensors with the one that's in my avatar
and i'm replacing the actual pads themselves to complement the sensor
so yeah this mod isn't incredibly difficult, it's just a big pain trying the diff. materials and eventually getting it right.
