Finding The Best MPC For Live (2000xl vs. 4000. . .)

Hi. I use an MPC 2000XL to create all of my music and i need to go onstage with my album. I need more than 32mb of ram but i dont like the feel of the new mpcs. The feel of it and the pads mean a lot to me. I need to find a workaround to go onstage with.

How does the 2000XL compare to the 4000? I see that the 4000 can be expanded up to 512MB ram.

If anyone could offer any advice id really appreciate it.

Come on son, you can do better than that. The 2kXL will run rings around the 4k, plus some. Don't let the large amount of memory fool ya, the smaller-the better. What else do you need to know?

most of the time at concerts I see mpc 1000 being used live on stage, or 2000xl and 1000 combo.

think you've been smokin crack

the 4k is a beast, steady, fast to use and wont crash on you.
depending on how many samples and how many tracks/songs how much ram you really need, if you know that, then it will be easier for you to decide.
If you can put your whole set in the memory of the 2kxl than go for that, you allready know that machine, If you can live with loading times while loading a new track (cause mem was full), you can also go for the 2kxl.
If you can live with 128 mb ram than you can go for the 1000.

That was intended to be a joke dawg. However, I do get a laugh out of the responses made from such statements. Guess why I've got a 4k?

Has anyone got any advice on loading new sequences and pgms whilst on stage with only 23mb ram.

You can choose between the mono-stereo stereo-mono convert and the resampling (as far as I remember shift trim open window and somewhere there) and there you can "resample" at different frequency and bit resolution. The only bad thing is the 2000 XL processes it too slow. But the result is a nice sound (samples on 22 khz are just like came from an sp or some old sampler). In my live setup I always did the same thing when I had longer samples. The other thing which is useful I think you don't really need stereo samples in a venue; no one will say this live set wasn't wide enough
So with mainly mono samples and some samples on a lower rate the 32 megs should be enough I think.
