MPC 500 OR MPD 32

I AM STUCK BETWEEN THESE TWO. I AM JUST STARTING MY STUDIO. I USE FL STUDIOS 8, REASON 4, AND LOGIC. I HAVE HAD THAT THE MPD 32 IS EQUAL TO A MPC 2500, IS THAT TRUE. I WANT A STANE ALONE UNIT BUT FOR $200 CHEAPER I COULD GET A MPD AND CONNECT IT TO THE COMPUTER AND HAVE AN MPC .PLZ DON'T SAY IT IS NOT A TRUE MPC CAUSE I KNOW THAT BUT WITH THE EXTRA $200 I COULD GET A M-AUDIO KEYBOARD AND SOMETHING ELSE.

Noway, never. One is much more powerful and self contained than the other.

if u r looking for something to control your daw, then dont get an mpc, get an mpd. i use my mpc 1000 to control my daw, it does it, but its not designed to b a midi controller. theres no set templates, etc. and u wud b wasting money on a hardware sampler/sequencer if u use an mpc in this way. (which is why i plan to sell mine, i used to use it for sampling/drum machine, but now able

the mpd wont work as a sequencer, sampler or drum machine, its just a controller for ur daw, however, depending on your software, u might find that it is a very versitile controller with some of the best pads for either triggering or playing ur software drum machine that u can find.

if u r getting an mpc, u want this to really b a focal part of your studio as it is a standalone piece of hardware.

your comparing apples to oranges mang

do you want an external sampler buy the mpc500
do you want just a controller and nothing more buy the mpd


its that fkin simple i dont even know why you are comparing these
thats like comparing a synth to a guitar
or even a guitar to a bass

they are not alike at all except they have pads and are made by akai.

I got both mpc500 and mpd32.
I have to say that i've never got used to the mpd32.Sure you have a lot more possibility in terms of editing, effects etc... becuse you are working in a Daw,but sometimes you are not focused on the song as you can be with an mpc. And another thing very important: the pads!!
You absolutely don't have the same feeling as you have with a real mpc, akai say that they are the same pads as mpc2500, but i have an mpc 500 and i had the 1000 and is completely different.Actually im going to sell the mpd32 and thinking in buying again the 1000, i love the workflow of that machine.

jhood2121, you seem like a software oriented guy so I think a MPD32 will compliment the softwares you have.

What is most important is which is going to be your main sampler Logic EXSP24 or MPC?

Which is going to be your main sequencer Logic, Fruityloops or MPC?


If you get a used mpc you can still used it as a main sequencer to control Logic and plus used the sampler on the road live. It is up to you. No computer has the feel of a mpc but no mpc is as strong as a DAW either. Use both I have a MPD24 and I hardly ever used it cuz the pads and the sequencer of my mpc still rules over my DAWs for the initial preproduction. My point of view thought do what you feel most comfortable with.

MPC 500...can be used anywhere, anytime. Nothing like banging out beats on the plane!!

MPD gives u the possibility to program in mpc style. But that's all. No warm analogue sounding 16 bit sampling ('but we can sound it like that with software FX and plugins', F&*k that), no everything in 1 box feel (the all in 1 box is responsible for a fast and comfortable workflow on a mp).

So heeeeeeelllll noooooo! An mpc is not a mpd. True that, technically a mpd plus a good DAW gives you more options then every MPC can give you.
But a dedicated mpc user prefers the workflow and the hands on interface, rather then a powerfull DAW stacked with thousands of options. For some peeps that just don't work.

So actually, once again it all depends on personal preferences.

yeah untill the Air Stewardess tips a jug of coffee over your MPC.

Back on topic - If you want to control your DAW get the MPD32. If you want an MPC - work harder save up and get a MPC1000.

yeah then you can talk about jj os, which pretty much changes everything. but for you seeing as you have all that software it sounds like the mpd might be your best course of action. unless your looking for change in your music making. also you can probably just use a cheap midi keyboard to control your software and have the mpc in use externally.
