Edit of pad/pitch in Grid and more...

I wonder which is the easiest way to do this:

1. Change the note/pad (vertical position) of one hit in grid edit (preferably DRUM mode).

2. Change the note/pad of all hits in a sequence track to one and the same fixed note/pad.

have you checked out TRANSPOSE in SEQ EDIT ?

Yes, but that's either relative (midi mode) or one pad at a time (drum mode). I wanted to be able to fix all notes to one value.

In grid edit (drum mode) I wonder if there's a graphical way of moving dots vertically. It could be useful when working with a midigroove where the timing should not be altered but you may want to change which sound is played at a particuilar position.

ok, there is a very easy way to do this in GRID EDIT... BUT... there is currently a 'bug' which is preventing it from working.

in GRID EDIT, you can move to and from each recorded pad event by using the STEP button. so you can put your cursor over the pad row you want to edit, use the STEP button to move from event to event until you get to the one you want to change, press f4 (delete), and then hit OVERDUB and hit the new pad you want to be recorded in it's place. easy.

the problem is that when you press DELETE, the cursor moves forward 2 ticks. and it is not always possible to move the cursor back to where the original event was because the cursor moves in 4 tick increments when under manual control.

so i am going to hit JJ with a request: that when DELETE is pressed, the cursor should remain stationary. that would make it very easy to delete events and record a new event in the exact same place as the old one.

I'm not quite understanding this... you want all newly recorded midi notes to be a specific note, for example C1, or you want a way to change all notes in a track to C#1/A#2/B3 or whatever to C1?

The later, I need it for imported midifiles where I'm only interested in the timing. It's easier if the notes aren't scattered around vertically.

Hmmm... interesting, I suppose if JJ likes it there may be a way for him to get that in there somehow.

I might suggest having it as an option when selecting notes in Grid View...

As a workaround couldnt you just change the sample assigned to the pad in question?
Admittedly that would work ok if youre just changing a couple of notes/pads and could get very messy the more pads you need to amend. But its just a though..

Or make a program that uses the same sample, non pitch shifted on every pad?

i think he just wants to move every recorded event to one row horizontally, just so it's easier to see.

well, my method won't really help you then because it would be kind of tedious to move ALL of the notes that way. but i'm still glad i found that little 'bug' and i'm still going to hit JJ with a request to fix it because it would be very useful to have working in other circumstances.

The easiest workaround I believe is transposing all notes "too much" so they all end up at max or min and then transpose to whatever I like. Unfortunately JJ only has +-12 so it needs quite a bit of buttonpushing. +-48 would be better

Anyway, SeqEdit>Fixed pitch or something like that would be a natural implementation.
But it's not a big deal really. There are other things I would really like to see implemented.
