Wassup All,

I'm thinking to modify my MPC 2500 with either getting JJOS XL OR JJOS 128XLCD SCREEN but don't know which will benefit me better.

I'm a lil worried about the 128 due to this being new with updates etc & installing it.

Help me choose please -all feedback welcome!
Thx

Nym could chime in, but imo seeing as you haven't tried OS-XL/OS2XL yet I'd go straight for the 128XLCD. The OS's moving forward really rapidly (with added features and bug fixes on every update) and the added screen real estate is put to good use.

Also recommend you to check out comparison charts and JJ's youtube channel and see if these are the features you'd like to utilize in your production workflow.

All in all, which ever you choose to get you wont be disappointed given that you'll put in the effort to learn it well. :)

at this point, either one you go with will funciton just as you like, if i had another mpc i would def buy the xlcd for it, at this point the paid version of the xlcd software is very capable, as compared to jjos2xl, there are some things that work a little different, but i think it will just be a workflow thing at first, since your just jumping in, you shouldnt have those issues in the first place.

check out this thead for more info on the xlcd.

Thank you guys, :-D

I been all over the thread and jj youtube channel all weekend and impressed by the large screen and thought rather than jump in at the deep end i ease my way in with the jjos for the regular screen!!

it really depends on what you need aka your workflow.

i dig the large screen, but the 128xl lacks some features that are essential for me. patched phrases for example. the free 128 OS supports these, but unfortunately lacks other features that i need.

so i stick with the (already) mighty OSXL and the regular screen. however, i do hope that more features from OSXL make it into the 128XL so i can one day switch to the large screen.

so again...compare and choose wisely.

Interesting!
The learning curve I have no issues with as thats to be expected and any other extra features are a bonus!
I'm coming from the Akai OS 1.23 and if the 128XL has the necessary features the akai 0S has, then that may work for me.

wow, big question. here's where i'm coming from:

i have a long history with jjos, dating back from summer 2006...i was one of the first to install it and i've been a very active beta tester for all versions of the OS. i'm an actual user/musician and i use this platform to sequence all of my music. i've released two albums from my MPC, one on the akai os and one on jjos2xl.

that said, i consider 128xl and os2xl the two top competing sampler-sequencer combo softwares in existence today. in my opinion there are three categories for excellence here: functionality, capactity (storage, ram etc), and workflow. jjos shines in functionality, but blinds you with workflow. YMMV but this is what i have found. nothing else even comes close.

so i'm on jjos128xl full-time now. i'm finishing my next album on it. it's bad form to introduce new equipment this close to being done with my last project, but i couldn't help it. it is still a new OS, and i send a report detailing bugs, feature requests, and workflow suggestions to the JJ team every evening (and get a response before i wake up - that is called SERVICE).

The learning curve I have no issues with as thats to be expected....I'm coming from the Akai OS 1.23 and if the 128XL has the necessary features the akai 0S has, then that may work for me.

first of all, good attitude. second, none of the OS's have all of the features of every other OS. for example, akai os has velocity->amp envelope settings that current jjos's do not have. the tradeoff, however, is worth it.

128xlcd is improving rapidly, and already outweighs os2xl in my opinion. i just want the quick COPY PARAMETER function back in GPE, but GPE is undergoing some exciting transformations so that may have to wait.

Very Informative Nym! :)

Thanks for your expertise on this here subject - every team needs an expert and your input is valuable & helpful and swaying me to get the screen!
IYHO i should take the opportuity to grab the 128XL Screen Huh :?:because of
Its development is moving forward & support is good and more importantly, will give me workflow options which may or may not confuse me!

I'm tryna find a compelling argument for os2xl but everyone seems very excited with the screen - its a game changer!

Also Tommtom remeber that 128XL is a joint venture MPC STUFF/JJ and it is the first of its kind for JJOS.Some I feel are weary of the obvious need for sales of the screen to be profitable for MPCSTUFF to continue manufacturing, thus effecting development incentive.

Heeeheeheee! Interesting point.. There maybe some truth in that! :)

It could also be argued that jj and team maybe need another focus.-perhaps!!
The original jjos is at what version now? 3.sumthin..i cant remember!
Thats a lotta work!!

hey nym, you said you wanted a copy paramater function in GPE on the big screen?

what exactly do you mean by this?

for example, 2xl can do this:

when i highlight the sequence name, i can push window, then copy it to a new sequence space. you can still do this in the xlcd versoin right?

are you just talking about copying things in gpe like this: for example, say a release of 25 is set up on pad a10, then you use a copy function to make 3 other pads have their release to be set up on 25 as well?

im just trying to see if i use this copy function that your talking about or not.

another place i use copy is when im in grid edit, i highlight alot of things (ie 8 bars) and copy them, then go to the start of bar 9 and click paste. then all my data on that track from the previous 8 bars is copied over to the next 8 bars thus giving me a 16 bar loop instead of an 8 bar one. this still works with the xlcd doesnt it?

thanks man.
