wow, big question. here's where i'm coming from:
i have a long history with jjos, dating back from summer 2006...i was one of the first to install it and i've been a very active beta tester for
all versions of the OS. i'm an actual user/musician and i use this platform to sequence all of my music. i've released two albums from my MPC, one on the akai os and one on jjos2xl.
that said, i consider 128xl and os2xl the two top competing sampler-sequencer combo softwares in existence today. in my opinion there are three categories for excellence here: functionality, capactity (storage, ram etc), and workflow. jjos shines in functionality, but blinds you with workflow. YMMV but this is what i have found. nothing else even comes close.
so i'm on jjos128xl full-time now. i'm finishing my next album on it. it's bad form to introduce new equipment this close to being done with my last project, but i couldn't help it. it is still a new OS, and i send a report detailing bugs, feature requests, and workflow suggestions to the JJ team every evening (and get a response before i wake up - that is called SERVICE).
The learning curve I have no issues with as thats to be expected....I'm coming from the Akai OS 1.23 and if the 128XL has the necessary features the akai 0S has, then that may work for me.
first of all, good attitude. second, none of the OS's have all of the features of every other OS. for example, akai os has velocity->amp envelope settings that current jjos's do not have. the tradeoff, however, is worth it.
128xlcd is improving rapidly, and already outweighs os2xl in my opinion. i just want the quick COPY PARAMETER function back in GPE, but GPE is undergoing some exciting transformations so that may have to wait.
